LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Maria Bartiromo upon the occasion of her
induction into the Fontbonne Hall Academy Hall of Fame on May 4, 2011
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend individuals who have distinguished themselves in their chosen
field of endeavor, in their community, or through a lifetime of good
citizenship; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Maria Bartiromo upon the occasion of her induction into the Fontbonne
Hall Academy Hall of Fame on May 4, 2011; and
WHEREAS, Maria Bartiromo will be honored at the school's Fleur de Lys
Dinner Dance, to be held at Gargiulo's Restaurant in Brooklyn on Wednes-
day, May 4, 2011; and
WHEREAS, The greatest asset of any society is its children and the
hope and promise they represent for the future; Brooklyn's Fontbonne
Hall Academy has a proud and rich history of providing young women with
an educational foundation which is both strong and enduring; and
WHEREAS, Fontbonne Hall Academy has been a leader in educating young
women for more than 71 years; it is a college-preparatory school whose
mission is to offer a superior educational program while forming and
empowering young women of confidence and compassion; located in Bay
Ridge, Brooklyn, its students come from southwest Brooklyn, southern
Queens and Staten Island; and
WHEREAS, Each year at its Fleur de Lys Dinner Dance, Fontbonne Hall
Academy proudly honors outstanding members of the Fontbonne family and
community who exemplify and support its mission and whose lives and
accomplishments epitomize the character and tenets of the school,
inducting them into its Hall of Fame; Maria Bartiromo truly merits this
high honor; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of Fontbonne Hall Academy, Class of 1985, Maria
Bartiromo subsequently graduated from New York University, where she
studied journalism and economics and served as an Adjunct Professor at
its Stern School of Business in the fall 2010 semester; and
WHEREAS, Maria Bartiromo is anchor of CNBC's "Closing Bell with Maria
Bartiromo" and anchor and managing editor of the nationally syndicated
"Wall Street Journal Report with Maria Bartiromo," recently rated the
most watched financial news program in America; both programs air
globally on the CNBC network; and
WHEREAS, In 1995, she became the first journalist to report live from
the floor of the New York Stock Exchange on a daily basis; she has
covered Wall Street for 20 years and joined CNBC in 1993 after five
years as a producer, writer and assignment editor with CNN Business
News; and
WHEREAS, Maria Bartiromo writes a monthly column for USA TODAY, a
weekly column for BUSINESSWEEK and MILANO FINANZA, as well as monthly
columns for INDIVIDUAL INVESTOR, TICKER and READER'S DIGEST magazines;
she has also been published in the FINANCIAL TIMES, NEWSWEEK, TOWN AND
COUNTRY, REGISTERED REP and the NEW YORK POST and is, in addition, the
author of several books including THE WEEKEND THAT CHANGED WALL STREET
and THE 10 LAWS OF ENDURING SUCCESS, both released in 2010; and
WHEREAS, She has received numerous prestigious awards including a 2008
News and Documentary Emmy for her "Bailout Talks Collapse" program
broadcast on "NBC Nightly News" and a Gracie Award for "Greenspan:
Power, Money & the American Dream" broadcast on CNBC; she won a second
Emmy Award for her 2009 documentary "Inside The Mind of Google," which
aired on CNBC; in 2009, the FINANCIAL TIMES named her one of the 50
Faces That Shaped the Decade and, in recognition of her impact on the
cable industry, Maria Bartiromo will be inducted into the Cable Hall of
Fame Class of 2011, the first journalist to be inducted; and
WHEREAS, Active in her community as well as her profession, in addi-
tion to being a Member of the Board of Trustees of New York University,
Maria Bartiromo is a Member of the Board of Directors of the New York
City Ballet; the Girl Scout Council of Greater New York; PENCIL (Public
Education Needs Civic Involvement and Leadership), a non-profit group
focusing on improving New York high schools, and the Young Global Lead-
ers of the World Economic Forum as well as a Member of the Council on
Foreign Relations, the Economic Club of New York, and the Board of
Governors of the Columbus Citizens Foundation; and
WHEREAS, Since her graduation, Maria Bartiromo has remained connected
to Fontbonne, especially through class reunions, however, on January 12,
2010 current Fontbonne Hall Academy students had the opportunity to get
to know her when she returned to Fontbonne to speak with the entire
school community about her life's journey, advising students to "do what
they love, work hard and do the right thing"; and
WHEREAS, Maria Bartiromo is truly a role model and inspiration for
young women everywhere, but particularly at Fontbonne Hall Academy,
which is fittingly proud to induct her into its Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such outstanding accomplishment are brought to its attention,
they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of the
great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Maria Bartiromo upon the occasion of her induction into the
Fontbonne Hall Academy Hall of Fame at its Fleur de Lys Dinner Dance on
May 4, 2011; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Maria Bartiromo.
