LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Roy Gangi upon the occasion of his
designation by the Italian Board of Guardians as the recipient of its
IBG Lifetime Achievement Award on May 11, 2011

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of individuals who
distinguish themselves in their profession and in service to their
community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Roy
Gangi, President of Gangi Plumbing and Heating Contractors, Inc., upon
the occasion of his designation by the Italian Board of Guardians (IBG)
as the recipient of its 2011 IBG Lifetime Achievement Award; and
WHEREAS, The Italian Board of Guardians is a non-profit social
services agency; an affiliate of Catholic Charities (Diocese of Brooklyn
and Queens), and a member agency of United Way of New York City and of
the Human Services Council, it was founded in 1936 to address the
emotional, educational, and social needs of the Italian-American commu-
nity; and
WHEREAS, Each year IBG gratefully acknowledges those who support and
work on behalf of its worthy endeavors; Roy Gangi will be honored at the
Italian Board of Guardians' Annual Bishops Gala and 75th Diamond Jubilee
Celebration, to be held at Russo's on the Bay in Howard Beach, New York
on Wednesday evening, May 11, 2011; and
WHEREAS, A man of singular distinction, Roy Gangi has continually
demonstrated extreme competence, extraordinary intelligence and diligent
leadership in his unwavering service to both his community and his
profession; and
WHEREAS, Rosario "Roy" Joseph Gangi was born and grew up in the Dyker
Heights section of Brooklyn; the son of Michael and Edith Gangi,
Rosario's paternal grandparents came from Resuttano, Sicily and his
maternal grandparents came from Sorrento, Italy, making Rosario a second
generation Italian American; and
WHEREAS, Roy's father started the family plumbing business in 1932, a
business in which Roy was always involved; as a young boy he went out on
jobs to assist the mechanics during the summer and throughout his high
school and college years; and
WHEREAS, After graduating from Poly Prep High School in Brooklyn, Roy
Gangi attended New York University where he earned a bachelor's degree
in Accounting, with a minor in law; and
WHEREAS, In 1964, Roy Gangi joined the family business full-time; he
joined Plumbers Local 1 and continued his education taking evening
classes at Mechanics Institute and went on to receive his Plumber
license in 1972; and
WHEREAS, After Michael Gangi passed away in 1987, Roy continued to run
the business and has, over the years, taken it to new heights; and
WHEREAS, The firm now services residential, commercial and industrial
customers throughout all of Manhattan and the outer boroughs; Roy Gangi
also uses his expertise as a consultant for many firms requiring his
knowledge and assistance; and
WHEREAS, Despite his busy professional life, Roy Gangi has been called
upon to contribute his time and talents to countless civic and charita-
ble endeavors and has always given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Roy Gangi is a Sergeant at Arms of the Brooklyn Chapter of
UNICO and is an honored member in the American Registry Who's Who of
leading professionals and executives and, in recognition of his service

and commitment to his community, Roy Gangi has been honored four times
by the ITALIAN TRIBUNE and has, in addition, received both the National
Business Advisory Board's National Leadership Award and its Businessman
of the Year Award; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Roy Gangi has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife of 47 years, the
former Leonora DeFrancisci, and their beloved daughters, Edith and Rose,
all of whom feel privileged to be part of his life and rejoice in his
achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals who have distinguished themselves in their profession and have
faithfully served the needs of their community with diligence and
compassionate commitment to improving the quality and dignity of life in
the community are brought to our attention, they should be celebrated
and recognized by all the citizens of the great State of New York; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Roy Gangi upon the occasion of his designation by the Italian
Board of Guardians as the recipient of its 2011 IBG Lifetime Achievement
Award on May 11, 2011; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Roy Gangi.
