LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending In Our Own Voices upon the occasion of
being named a 2011 Honoree by the Lark Street Business Improvement
District on May 5, 2011

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend In
Our Own Voices upon the occasion of being named a 2011 Honoree by the
Lark Street Business Improvement District, to be celebrated at its Cham-
pagne on the Park, All That Glimmers event on Thursday, May 5, 2011; and
WHEREAS, An independent, not-for-profit organization, The Lark Street
Business Improvement District works to build, sustain and enhance a
unique and prosperous living and business community for the residents,
visitors, and merchants of the Lark Street Neighborhood of Albany, New
York; and
WHEREAS, Its annual fundraising event, Champagne on the Park, All That
Glimmers is dedicated to sustaining and promoting the economic and urban
development of this unique neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, 2011 Honoree, In Our Own Voices is an autonomous organiza-
tion, dedicated to addressing the many needs and ensuring the physical,
mental, spiritual, political, cultural, and economic survival and growth
of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered (LGBT) minority communi-
ties; and
WHEREAS, In Our Own Voices plays an important role in creating commu-
nity change through its numerous services and projects including advoca-
cy and education projects, substance abuse and recovery projects, anti-
violence programs, community organizing projects, family wellness
programs, and social activities; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend In Our Own Voices upon the occasion of being named a 2011 Hono-
ree by the Lark Street Business Improvement District on May 5, 2011; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to In Our Own Voices, 245 Lark Street, Albany, New York 12210.
