LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Noopura School of Indian Classical
Dance upon the occasion of its 22nd Anniversary

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor and pay trib-
ute to organizations and individuals whose commitment and creative
talents contribute to the cultural enrichment, education and enter-
tainment of their community and the State of New York and beyond; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the Noopura School of Indian Classical Dance upon the occasion of its
22nd Anniversary; and
WHEREAS, The Noopura School of Indian Classical Dance will joyfully
celebrate this auspicious occasion with a 22nd Anniversary Celebration
to be held at the Humanities Theater at Queensborough Community College
in Bayside, New York on Sunday, May 8, 2011 at which its students and
members of its Dance Company will perform a variety of dances; and
WHEREAS, Located in Floral Park, New York, the Noopura School of Indi-
an Classical Dance has established itself as one of the preeminent clas-
sical South Asian dance institutes in the United States; and
WHEREAS, It currently has more than 200 students, ranging in age from
5 to 24, in the various dance classes it offers; and
WHEREAS, The Noopura School of Indian Classical Dance and its Noopura
Classical Dance Company have received national and international
acclaim, earning awards at various competitions and performing at
cultural shows, inaugurations and galas all over the world, including in
Europe, the Middle East and India; and
WHEREAS, Seeking to enrich the community by enhancing the appreci-
ation, understanding and experience of Indian dance, the Noopura Indian
Classical Dance Company proudly shares its work with diverse audiences
through performances and educational outreach; and
WHEREAS, The arts are the building blocks of civilization, they are
central to human expression; they enlighten us and inspire the imagina-
tion; individuals and organizations which further such worthy purposes
richly merit the recognition and appreciation of this Legislative Body
and the people of the State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the Noopura School of Indian Classical Dance upon the occasion of
its 22nd Anniversary, to be celebrated with a gala performance of a
variety of representative dances on May 8, 2011; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Noopura School of Indian Classical Dance, 257-20 80th
Avenue, Floral Park, New York 11004.
