LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Joseph T. Mullen upon the occasion of
being inducted into the Bishop Maginn High School Hall of Fame

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge institutions and individuals of remarkable integri-
ty and character who have inspired and brought pride to our majestic
Empire State with their strong contributions to the community and model
citizenship; and
WHEREAS, The steadfast and unyielding commitment of parents, educa-
tors, and administrators, to provide the highest quality education for
students is the hallmark and tradition of Bishop Maginn High School; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Joseph T. Mullen upon the occasion of being inducted into the Bishop
Maginn High School Hall of Fame on Friday, May 6, 2011, at the Shaker
Ridge Country Club in Loudonville, New York; and
WHEREAS, This special event is to honor former student-athletes,
distinguished alumni, and alumni who have demonstrated outstanding
service from Bishop Maginn and its heritage schools: St. Joseph's, St.
Ann's, Cathedral Academy, St. John's, Cardinal McCloskey, and Vincentian
Institute; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Mullen is a 1983 graduate of Bishop Maginn High
School; he was a three-year starter on the varsity basketball and base-
ball teams; in 1980, he was the Most Valuable Player on the freshman
basketball team; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Mullen received recognition in 1981 as the Most
Improved Player and in 1982 he was the Most Valuable Player on the
varsity basketball team; he was selected to the Shaker Holiday All Tour-
nament Team and was also recognized by the TIMES UNION as an "Unsung
Hero"; and
WHEREAS, In 1983, Joseph Mullen received the 100% award and the TIMES
UNION noted that he had the "Best Looking Shot"; he was named a First
Team Big Ten All-Star and was also a starter on the Big Ten Exceptional
Senior Team; and
WHEREAS, At the conclusion of that year, Joseph Mullen received the
Bishop Maginn Sportsmanship Award; after high school, he attended the
State University College at Oneonta where he played on the varsity
basketball team from 1984-1987; he served as captain from 1986-1987; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Mullen earned a Bachelor of Science degree from SUNY
Oneonta with a dual major in accounting and economics; he then continued
on to earn his Master of Business Administration degree from the College
of St. Rose; and
WHEREAS, Currently the Director of Administration of the New York
State Insurance Fund, Joseph Mullen is the proud father of two children,
Joseph and Andrea Mullen; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Joseph T. Mullen upon the occasion of being inducted into the
Bishop Maginn High School Hall of Fame; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Joseph T. Mullen.
