LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Liz Bishop upon the occasion of being
inducted into the Bishop Maginn High School Hall of Fame

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge institutions and individuals of remarkable integri-
ty and character who have inspired and brought pride to our majestic
Empire State with their strong contributions to the community and model
citizenship; and
WHEREAS, The steadfast and unyielding commitment of parents, educa-
tors, and administrators, to provide the highest quality education for
students is the hallmark and tradition of Bishop Maginn High School; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Liz
Bishop upon the occasion of being inducted into the Bishop Maginn High
School Hall of Fame on Friday, May 6, 2011, at the Shaker Ridge Country
Club in Loudonville, New York; and
WHEREAS, This special event is to honor former student-athletes,
distinguished alumni, and alumni who have demonstrated outstanding
service from Bishop Magnin and its heritage schools: St. Joseph's, St.
Ann's, Cathedral Academy, St. John's, Cardinal McCloskey, and Vincentian
Institute; and
WHEREAS, Liz Bishop is a 1970 graduate of Vincentian Institute; during
high school, she was the Sports Editor of the BLUE BANNER, which was the
school newspaper; she also was a member of the National Honor Society,
the Yearbook Club and the French Club; and
WHEREAS, After high school, Liz Bishop went on to the University at
Albany where she earned her bachelor's degree; her first job was writing
a column in the TIMES UNION called "Look to Liz"; she was the WRGB Chan-
nel 6 weekend sportscaster with a program slot called "Liz with sports";
and
WHEREAS, Liz Bishop has won many awards during her career, two of
which include the New York State Emmy Award and the Edward R. Murrow
Award; she was the recipient of multiple awards from the New York State
Associated Press as well as the New York State Broadcasters' Associ-
ation; and
WHEREAS, Liz Bishop was named "Best Local News Anchor" by CAPITAL
REGION LIVING, HUDSON VALLEY and METROLAND MAGAZINES; she was recognized
as "Best Local TV Institution" by METROLAND MAGAZINE; and
WHEREAS, Liz Bishop was named "Woman of the Year" by the Women's Busi-
ness Council, the American Association of University Women, Mohawk Path-
way Girl Scouts and Girls Clubs of America; she was also named "Women's
Press Club Media Person of the Year"; and
WHEREAS, Liz Bishop is also on the Honor Roll and has been named a
distinguished alumni of the University of Albany; a true asset to socie-
ty, she is well-worthy of the Bishop Maginn Distinguished Alumni Award;
and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Liz Bishop upon the occasion of being inducted into the Bishop
Maginn High School Hall of Fame; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Liz Bishop.
