LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Ms. Luretha Assandra Daniels upon the
occasion of her designation for special recognition

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Ms.
Luretha Assandra Daniels upon the occasion of her designation for
special recognition, to be celebrated on Saturday, May 14, 2011; and
WHEREAS, Born in South Carolina, Luretha Daniels completed her studies
and became a graduate of the class of 1957 from Johnson High School in
Timmonsville, South Carolina; she soon moved to New York in 1958; and
WHEREAS, Luretha Daniels found work at Abraham & Strauss, one of the
biggest department stores in Brooklyn; she had worked there for over 18
years; and
WHEREAS, Luretha Daniels later worked for the City and became employed
by the New York City Department of Health, where she worked for 13
years; as a Christian, she found peace and joy when she entered the
doors of Newman Memorial United Methodist Church; and
WHEREAS, Luretha Daniels soon became an Usher, and later became the
Joint Board President, a position she has served for over 18 years; a
Sunday school teacher, she has learned much from the Bible, which has
been the source from where she has gotten wisdom, peace and love; and
WHEREAS, Having been a member of Newman Memorial for over 40 years,
Luretha Daniels gets her strength from her faith and family; a dedicated
and affectionate daughter, she works diligently to take care of her 92
year-old mother, Mamie, who she loves very much; and
WHEREAS, Luretha Daniels became part of the Church Ushers Association
in Brooklyn, New York, where she became affiliated with many organiza-
tions, including Brooklyn & Long Island serving as a dedicated corre-
sponding secretary for many years; she was affiliated with the Education
Department and also worked with the Presidents Council Department, the
Alumni Department, and the Credential Department, as well as many other
organizations and committees; and
WHEREAS, Along with her mother, with her throughout have been her
friend, Sam, her three daughters, all of whom feel privileged to be a
part of her life and rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, A true asset to society, Luretha Daniels' distinguished
record merits the recognition and respectful tribute of this Legislative
Body; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Ms. Luretha Assandra Daniels upon the occasion of her designation
for special recognition; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Ms. Luretha Assandra Daniels.
