Legislative Resolution honoring Elizabeth R. Smitka upon the occasion of
her designation as recipient of the Diane G. Snell Humanitarian Award by
the Montgomery County Office for Aging, Inc.

WHEREAS, The State of New York takes great pride in acknowledging its
esteemed residents who have distinguished themselves in their community;
and
WHEREAS, Elizabeth R. Smitka will be honored by the Montgomery County
Office for Aging, Inc. with its prestigious Diane G. Snell Humanitarian
Award during its Annual Awards Dinner to be held at the Glen Sanders
Mansion on May 19, 2011; and
WHEREAS, Liz graduated from Notre Dame High School and St. Mary's
Hospital School of Nursing; and
WHEREAS, She enjoyed a successful career at St. Mary's Hospital as a
nurse in the Maternity and Labor and Delivery wards; and
WHEREAS, Liz also worked in prenatal and medical clinics, and taught
Natural Family Planning; and
WHEREAS, She coordinated appointments and managed the Healthy Women's
Partnership of Montgomery County at St. Mary's for several years; and
WHEREAS, Liz and her loving husband, David, are the proud parents of
James and Ann Smitka, and have been blessed with three grandchildren,
Kiran Riley Smitka, Tara Elizabeth Smitka, and Madelyn Danielle Marrone;
and
WHEREAS, She and David sponsored Pre-Cana classes at St. Mary's Church
in Amsterdam; and
WHEREAS, Liz also served as past president of the Tribes Hill Volun-
teer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary; and
WHEREAS, She has exhibited the true spirit of this prestigious award
through her tireless dedication to the community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Elizabeth R. Smitka upon the occasion of her designation as
recipient of the Diane G. Snell Humanitarian Award by the Montgomery
County Office for Aging, Inc.; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Elizabeth R. Smitka.
