LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Kathleen Usiak upon the occasion of
her nomination for the 2011 Youth of the Year Award by the Boys and
Girls Club

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor and pay trib-
ute to those young people who, by achieving outstanding success in their
community have inspired and brought pride to our majestic Empire State;
and
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Kathleen Usiak upon the occasion of her nomination for the 2011 Youth of
the Year Award by the Boys and Girls Club; and
WHEREAS, Kathleen Usiak is an extraordinary 17 year-old young woman
recognized by the Boys and Girls Club of the Northtowns for her sound
character, leadership skills and willingness to give back to the commu-
nity; and
WHEREAS, The Youth of the Year program recognizes outstanding contrib-
utions to a member's family, school, community and the Boys and Girls
Club, as well as overcoming personal challenges and obstacles; and
WHEREAS, The Youth of the Year program of the Boys and Girls Club
encourages members to reach their full potential by achieving academic
success, leading healthy lifestyles and contributing to their communi-
ties; and
WHEREAS, A seven-year member of the All Saints Baker Boys and Girls
Club, Kathleen Usiak has participated in programs such as Smart Girls,
Youth Power, and the Dance Team; today, she is a teacher of Youth Power
for preteens, and runs the Dance Program where she has successfully
recruited more teen volunteers to help make this program more success-
ful; and
WHEREAS, In school, Kathleen Usiak is a member of the debate team,
Latin dance team, poetry slam and book club; moreover, she volunteers
much of her time at the library, helping clean up, check in books, or
assist people with research; and
WHEREAS, Active in her community, Kathleen Usiak is heading a communi-
ty spring clean-up with the Torch Club, where the club members will go
around the community and clean up all the garbage off the streets, help-
ing to beautify their neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, Kathleen Usiak has earned the respect and admiration of her
classmates, teachers, fellow Boys and Girls Club members, family and
friends; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be recognized by all the citizens of this great Empire
State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Kathleen Usiak upon the occasion of her nomination for the 2011
Youth of the Year Award by the Boys and Girls Club; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Kathleen Usiak.
