LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Deputy Sheriff Christopher K. Shaw upon
the occasion of his designation as the 2010 Correction Officer of the
Year by the Orange County Sheriff's Office

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and honor
those distinguished officers and citizens who would devote themselves to
public service, demonstrating great courage and diligence in providing
for the care and welfare of the citizens of their communities and this
great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York there are
certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication,
command the respect and admiration of their community for their exem-
plary contributions and service on behalf of others; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Deputy Sheriff
Christopher K. Shaw upon the occasion of his designation as the 2010
Correction Officer of the Year by the Orange County Sheriff's Office, to
be celebrated at its Awards Recognition Ceremony on May 12, 2011, in
Goshen, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Sheriff's Office is recognizing correction officers and
employees, as well as deputies for the fine work they do throughout the
year; members of the office are presented awards for their outstanding
service during 2010; and
WHEREAS, Deputy Sheriff Christopher Shaw was assigned to the A-line
shift, where his duties included checking and securing county property,
picking up prisoners from other agencies, processing civil documents,
and serving orders of protection; in addition, he is responsible for
answering 911 calls, responding to motor vehicle accidents, crimes in
progress, assisting other agencies, and arresting and processing indi-
viduals; and
WHEREAS, Deputy Sheriff Christopher Shaw went above and beyond his
normal duties and was able to effect 20 DWI arrests, three of which were
made during one shift, and a total of 15 narcotics related arrests; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those dedicated
public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the preservation
of order and the protection of others are worthy and due full praise for
their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Deputy Sheriff Christopher K. Shaw upon the occasion of his desig-
nation as the 2010 Correction Officer of the Year by the Orange County
Sheriff's Office; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Deputy Sheriff Christopher K. Shaw.
