LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dr. Steven Shelov upon the occasion of
his designation for special recognition by the Aleh Foundation on June
1, 2011

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Steven Shelov has given not only of his time and energies
but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dr. Steven
Shelov upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition by
the Aleh Foundation, to be celebrated at its Annual Dinner on Wednesday,
June 1, 2011; and
WHEREAS, A Yale University graduate, Dr. Steven Shelov completed his
medical training at the Medical College of Wisconsin and received his
Master's of Administrative Medicine from the University of Wisconsin;
and
WHEREAS, Dr. Steven Shelov is a distinguished pediatrician, professor,
healthcare policy and education expert and administrator whose leader-
ship is invaluable to the Cohen Children's Medical Center; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Steven Shelov has been called upon to contribute his time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, A long-time friend and supporter of the Aleh Foundation, Dr.
Steven Shelov has spent many years helping disabled children; and
WHEREAS, Former Vice President of the Maimonides Infants and Chil-
dren's Hospital of Brooklyn, Dr. Steven Shelov has served as Chairman of
Pediatrics for Maimonides Medical Center, Chairman and Senior Vice Pres-
ident of Pediatrics at Lutheran Medical Center and Professor of Pedia-
trics at SUNY/Downstate Medical Center; and
WHEREAS, During his tenure at Maimonides and Lutheran, Dr. Steven
Shelov developed the three-hospital children's hospital system of Maim-
onides, Lutheran and Coney Island Hospital; he has been active in health
policy, serving several Presidential Administrations, and is currently
working with the State of New York government leaders to address child
healthcare quality issues; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Dr. Steven Shelov has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Dr. Steven Shelov has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. Steven Shelov upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by the Aleh Foundation on June I, 2011; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Steven Shelov.
