LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Niles Eggleston for his many years of
dedicated service to the Greater Milford Historical Association to be
recognized on May 18, 2011

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend the efforts
of those organizations and individuals who seek to bring recognition to
historical places within the State of New York, and in doing so, help to
ensure the complete history of our State and Nation is preserved and
shared with present generations of citizens; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Niles Eggleston for his many years of dedicated service to the Greater
Milford Historical Association to be recognized on Wednesday, May 18,
2011, at the Upper Susquehanna Cultural Center in Milford, New York; and
WHEREAS, In 1972, Niles Eggleston was a founding member of the Greater
Milford Historical Association, the historical agency for Milford and
environs in Otsego County, located in the heart of New York's Leather-
stocking region; and
WHEREAS, The Greater Milford Historical Association promotes local and
rural history and encourages research and scholarship; it also operates
two historic buildings, the David Sayre Store and House Museum and the
Upper Susquehanna Cultural Center in the Village of Milford; and
WHEREAS, The success enjoyed by the Greater Milford Historical Associ-
ation is in direct correlation to the efforts of Niles Eggleston, who
has served as its president for the past eight years; and
WHEREAS, Niles Eggleston has also written several books on the history
of Milford, one in particular, EVA COO, MURDERESS; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is pleased to have this opportunity to
pay tribute to Niles Eggleston, who has worked to bring proper attention
to a place and time which merits recognition in the grand panorama of
the history of our State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, His devoted involvement is and has always been characterized
by an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompro-
mising standard of excellence in all of his efforts on behalf of the
organization and the population it serves; and
WHEREAS, Under the direction of Niles Eggleston, the Greater Milford
Historical Association may take just pride in its purposeful growth, as
it looks forward to continuing to serve the educational, cultural and
intellectual needs of the community; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Niles Eggleston for his many years of dedicated service to the
Greater Milford Historical Association; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Niles Eggleston.
