LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Odyssey of the Mind Teams from the
Bethlehem and Voorheesville Middle Schools upon the occasion of qualify-
ing to represent the State of New York at the Odyssey of the Mind World
Finals Tournament

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commend and pay
tribute to those young people who have inspired and brought pride to our
majestic Empire State by achieving outstanding success in educational
competition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the Odyssey of the Mind Teams from the Bethlehem and Voorheesville
Middle Schools upon the occasion of qualifying to represent the State of
New York at the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals Tournament at the
University of Maryland to be held May 27-30, 2011; and
WHEREAS, The Odyssey of the Mind Competition teaches students to learn
creative problem-solving methods, encouraging individual expression,
imaginative thinking and team building skills in order to achieve
solutions; and
WHEREAS, Bethlehem's team won first place for Problem 5, Division 2,
while the Voorheesville team won second place for Problem 3, Division 2;
this qualified both teams to advance to the world finals where they will
compete against teams from across the United States as well as from 25
countries around the world; and
WHEREAS, The Bethlehem Middle School team members include Selin Gumus-
top, Sydney Klugman, Ben Licht, Tim Mueller, Nora Sheehan, and Luke
Thompson, and was coached by Betsy Gumustop; and
WHEREAS, The Voorheesville Middle School team members include Sadye
Goldfarb, Ben Mackay, Lydia Parker, Erik Patak, and Alex Relyea, and was
coached by Jean Mackay; and
WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, these
scholars now stand honorably, with just pride in their accomplishments
and in eager anticipation of future challenges, understanding and appre-
ciating the caring counsel and support provided by their teachers, fami-
ly and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Odyssey of the Mind Teams from the Bethlehem and Voorhees-
ville Middle Schools upon the occasion of qualifying to represent the
State of New York at the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals Tournament,
and offer them its best wishes for a future of purposeful success and
well-being; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Odyssey of the Mind Teams from the Bethlehem and
Voorheesville Middle Schools.
