LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending John and Luisa Dutra upon the occasion
of their designation by Saint Joachim Roman Catholic Church as the Hono-
rees of its 32nd Annual Diamond Ball

WHEREAS, The quality and character of life in New York State are greatly
enriched by the faithful and generous service of those who devote them-
selves to endeavors of family, faith, and community; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend individuals of such magnanimous conduct and bearing who demon-
strate a deep and continuing concern for others, and in so doing,
inspire others to do the same; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor John
and Luisa Dutra upon the occasion of their designation by Saint Joachim
Roman Catholic Church of Cedarhurst, New York as the Honorees of its
32nd Annual Diamond Ball, to be held at The Sands at Atlantic Beach on
Saturday, June 18, 2011; and
WHEREAS, Serving the Catholic faithful of Cedarhurst and surrounding
communities, Saint Joachim Roman Catholic Church is an institution of
long-standing repute and exemplary accomplishment; at its Annual Diamond
Ball it recognizes, with great pride, those who exemplify its ideals and
have helped to further its mission; and
WHEREAS, Cherished and respected members of the Saint Joachim Parish
community, John and Luisa Dutra, the owners of Dunkin Donuts stores in
Lawrence and Valley Stream, are well-known in the Five Towns as success-
ful and highly respected business owners and entrepreneurs; and
WHEREAS, John and Luisa Dutra are deeply rooted in both their
Portuguese and their American cultures; they are members of many organ-
izations in the Five Towns and support and work on behalf of many worthy
causes and endeavors; and
WHEREAS, Since the early 1990s, Luisa Dutra has been an active member
of Hadassah, an organization which supports the Hadassah Hospital, a
research hospital in Israel dedicated to helping and healing people of
all faiths; and
WHEREAS, It seems to many that the Dutra's "Dunkin Donuts" label
appears everywhere in the community and their behind the scenes work and
charity on behalf of their faith and those in need are well-known and
much appreciated throughout the Five Towns and beyond; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to extend its highest commen-
dation to John and Luisa Dutra for their dedication and service to the
Saint Joachim Roman Catholic Church Parish community and to their faith
and heritage; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend John and Luisa Dutra upon the occasion of their designation by
Saint Joachim Roman Catholic Church as the Honorees of its 32nd Annual
Diamond Ball on June 18, 2011; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to John and Luisa Dutra.
