LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Barbara and Robert Hordos upon the occa-
sion of their designation by the Jericho Jewish Center as recipients of
the 2011 Couple of the Year Award on June 16, 2011

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Barbara and Robert Hordos have given not only of their time
and energies but also of their competence, intelligence and leadership
and consequently have been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Barbara and
Robert Hordos upon the occasion of their designation by the Jericho
Jewish Center as recipients of the 2011 Couple of the Year Award, to be
celebrated at its Gala Evening of Tribute on Thursday, June 16, 2011;
and
WHEREAS, Barbara and Robert Hordos moved to Jericho in 1976 and joined
the Jericho Jewish Center in 1977; from that day on, they have devoted
themselves to the synagogue; Barbara was an active member of Parent's
Council supporting her children throughout their Hebrew education and
she is also a member of Sisterhood and currently serves on the High
Holiday Seating Committee; and
WHEREAS, Barbara Hordos grew up in Middle Village and Far Rockaway,
Queens, she received her associates degree in medical laboratory tech-
nology from NYC Community College; currently she works a part time posi-
tion at Pediatric Health Associates in Plainview; and
WHEREAS, Robert Hordos has been a member of Jericho Jewish Center's
choir since 1977 and became its director in 1999; he has served on the
Executive Board of the synagogue in the capacity of Ways & Means Vice
President and currently serves as Vice President of Education and Ritu-
al; and
WHEREAS, Robert Hordos grew up in Providence, Rhode Island, and Brook-
lyn, New York; he received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Long
Island University along with earning his doctorate in education from St.
John's University; and
WHEREAS, Robert Hordos retired in 2001 after teaching mathematics for
34 years; he then continued his career teaching mathematics in the
college admissions program at St. John's University and currently does
consulting work for the Department of Education during high school
enrollment; and
WHEREAS, With them throughout have been their children, Allison, Doug-
las, Jonathan and Amanda, and their grandchildren, Sophia and Eden, all
of whom feel privileged to be a part of their lives and rejoice in their
achievements; and
WHEREAS, Barbara and Robert Hordos have been called upon to contribute
their time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and
have always given of themselves unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of their community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Barbara and Robert Hordos have stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by individuals
for the benefit of others which Barbara and Robert Hordos have displayed
throughout their lives; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Barbara and Robert Hordos upon the occasion of their designation
by the Jericho Jewish Center as recipients of the 2011 Couple of the
Year Award; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Barbara and Robert Hordos.
