LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Susan Storms upon the oceasion of her
designation as the Merrick Life 2011 Mother of the Year

WHEREAS, Individuals who devote their lives to raising their families to
enable them to build lives of dignity and self-worth are deserving of
the highest praise and recognition; and
WHEREAS, Susan Storms has given not only of her time and energies but
also of her love, competence, intelligence and leadership and conse-
quently has been designated for special honor by Merrick Life, which
serves Merrick, New York, and its surrounding communities; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Susan Storms
upon the occasion of her designation as the Merrick Life 2011 Mother of
the Year; and
WHEREAS, Susan Storms is the proud mother of two daughters, both of
whom are loving and caring individuals serving as a testament to their
mother; and
WHEREAS, Nominated by her daughter Lauren, Susan Storms has dedicated
her life to raising her family; however, for over the past year she has
served as her children's beacon as they have been coping with the long
crusade to diagnose Lauren's mystery illness since January of 2010; and
WHEREAS, Susan Storms attributes her gift of mothering to her own mom
and dad, and the way she was raised with loving care and a strong German
family in a quaint colonial home she loved in Oak Park, Merrick, New
York; and.
WHEREAS, Having been a bellbottom wearing hippie then a determined
career-minded young woman, Susan Storms married her husband Charlie at
the age of 30 in 1978, and their two amazing daughters came soon after
to complete their happy family; and
WHEREAS, Susan Storms believes that like everything else, mothering
has its ups and downs but the greatest reward has been to see her two
beautiful daughters grow up and become the young women she is so proud
of today; and
WHEREAS, When her girls were young, Susan Storms always made it possi-
ble for them to be involved in soccer, Girl Scouts, and dance class; in
addition, she encouraged them to volunteer for community organizations
and led by example, becoming very involved with the Chatterton PTA; and
WHEREAS, While juggling the responsibilities of motherhood, Susan
Storms worked full time as a telecommunications consultant for various
Wall Street firms, only to come home and whip up an amazing home-cooked
dinner, keep the house clean enough to eat off the floor, and decorated
like a Martha Stewart magazine photo shoot; and
WHEREAS, Susan Storms was the epitome of those "Wonder Woman" mothers;
those moms who work all day in a serious profession and who still manage
to fulfill the traditional mother and homemaker role, a difficult
balancing act; and
WHEREAS, Strong and resilient, her children consider Susan Storms to
be the rock of their family and the even keel that steadies them during
the storm, always managing to find the silver lining in any situation;
and
WHEREAS, A woman of singular distinction, Susan Storms takes pride in
her family and they, in turn, respect the value of motherhood; and
WHEREAS, New York State is home to countless women, strong and color-
ful threads vital to the fabric of our rich heritage, who have and
continue to contribute to the advancement of our culture through their
traditional and non-traditional roles in society, especially the impor-
tant role of mother; Susan Storms represents a model of professional,
community and family life worthy of emulation; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Susan Storms upon the occasion of her designation as the Merrick
Life 2011 Mother of the Year; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Susan Storms.
