LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Rabbi Ely and Rabbanit Chani Rosenz-
veig as they are honored by Congregation Anshe Shalom at its Annual
Testimonial Dinner on Sunday, June 26, 2011

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to individuals of firm faith and commitment who have devoted
their untiring energy and purposeful lives in service to their faith;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is pleased to commend Rabbi
Ely and Rabbanit Chani Rosenzveig as they are honored by Congregation
Anshe Shalom at its Annual Testimonial Dinner on Sunday, June 26, 2011;
and
WHEREAS, Congregation Anshe Shalom is a modern orthodox synagogue in
New Rochelle, New York; one of the anchor synagogues of Westchester
County, founded in 1896, in addition to its daily services and inspiring
Shabbos services, it offers a variety of programs and activities in a
warm, inviting environment; and
WHEREAS, The synagogue is the common spiritual home of a congregation;
in it rests the heritage of the Jewish people and from it stems the
teaching and the practice of its treasured values and traditions; and
WHEREAS, The true architects of society and community are our spiritu-
al leaders whose faith and unremitting commitment serve to sustain and
enhance the spiritual and cultural values of life; and
WHEREAS, Rabbi Ely and Rabbanit Chani Rosenzveig have distinguished
themselves by their sincere dedication and substantial contribution to
Congregation Anshe Shalom and its congregants and truly merit their
recognition and appreciation; and
WHEREAS, Under Rabbi Ely Rosenzveig's leadership during his 15 year
tenure, the Congregation has developed a remarkable array of programs,
activities, and outreach initiatives which touch thousands of Jews
throughout the Tri-State area and in which it justly takes great pride;
and
WHEREAS, Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Helen and
the late Rabbi Charles H. Rosenzveig, Rabbi Ely Rosenzveig studied with
renowned scholars including Rabbi Aryeh Leib Bakst, zt'l, in Detroit,
and Rabbi Dr. Joseph B. Soloveitchik, zt'l, at Yeshiva University in New
York, and his late father, the Founder and Director of the Holocaust
Memorial Center in Michigan; and
WHEREAS, He earned his semicha from Yeshiva University's Rabbi Isaac
Elchanan Theological Seminary in 1984 and, in 1985, received his law
degree from the University of Michigan School of Law in Ann Arbor,
Michigan; and
WHEREAS, Rabbi Ely Rosenzveig is supported in all his endeavors by his
devoted wife Chani, who was born in Tel Aviv, Israel; her parents, David
and Rivka Gross, are Holocaust survivors who immigrated to Israel after
the Shoah; her father fought in the 1948 War of Israel Independence and
in the 1956 Suez Campaign; when Chani was three years old, the family
moved to the United States; and
WHEREAS, Raised in Brooklyn, New York, Chani Rosenzveig is a graduate
of Yeshiva University's High School for Girls; she also studied at
Machon Gold in Jerusalem, and subsequently earned a degree in computer
science from Brooklyn College of The City University of New York in
August 1977, and a Master of Business Administration degree in finance
from New York University in 1981; and

WHEREAS, Chani Rosenzveig works for the Hebrew Academy for Special
Children (HASC) where she recently celebrated her tenth anniversary of
service as the school's Educational Technology Coordinator; and
WHEREAS, Rabbi Ely and Rabbanit Chani Rosenzveig have been honored
many times for their dedication and service; Rabbi Rosenzveig has been
honored by the Rabbinical Council of America, the Zionist Organization
of America, Israel Bonds, and with the New Rochelle Chamber of
Commerce's coveted Humanitarian Award in 2008; and
WHEREAS, Rabbi Ely and Chani Rosenzveig were the Guests of Honor at
the Bet El Community in Israel's Annual Dinner Gala in Manhattan in
2009; in 2001, with great pride, Rabbi Rosenzveig delivered the opening
prayer at a session of Congress, and, in 2002, he was honored to, simi-
larly, open a session of the New York State Assembly and, in 2001 at its
Annual Dinner, the Congregation Anshe Shalom Sisterhood honored Chani
Rosenzveig with its Eishat Chayil Award; and
WHEREAS, Rabbi Ely and Rabbanit Chani Rosenzveig are blessed to be the
parents of five children Ariel, Tziona, Shifra, Elisheva and Akiva, all
of whom are proud to be part of their lives and rejoice in their many
accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of their worthy endeavors, this Legislative
Body is proud to extend its highest commendation to Rabbi Ely and
Rabbanit Chani Rosenzveig for their commitment to their faith and their
heritage; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Rabbi Ely and Rabbanit Chani Rosenzveig as they are honored by
Congregation Anshe Shalom at its Annual Testimonial Dinner on Sunday,
June 26, 2011; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Rabbi Ely and Rabbanit Chani Rosenzveig.
