LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Eleanor and Martin Charwat upon the
occasion of their designation for special recognition by the League of
Women Voters of the Mid Hudson Region on June 5, 2011

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Eleanor and Martin Charwat have given not only of their time
and energies but also of their competence, intelligence and leadership
and consequently have been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Eleanor and
Martin Charwat upon the occasion of their designation for special recog-
nition by the League of Women Voters of the Mid Hudson Region, to be
celebrated at its Susan B. Anthony Honorees' Luncheon on Sunday, June 5,
2011, in Kingston, New York; and
WHEREAS, Long-time residents of Poughkeepsie, New York, Eleanor and
Martin Charwat have been called upon to contribute their time and
talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and have always
given of themselves unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Eleanor Charwat has been an active member of the League of
Women Voters of Dutchess County and has worked on programs at the Elea-
nor Roosevelt Center at Val-Kill, the Poughkeepsie Public Library and
the Dutchess County Historical Society; and
WHEREAS, Presently, Eleanor Charwat serves as a tutor in the English
as a Second Language for Literacy Connections; and
WHEREAS, Martin Charwat, a graduate of the Georgetown University
School of Foreign Service spent many years working in various programs
throughout the world; after returning to the United States, he graduated
from Georgetown University Law School and joined a family law practice
in Poughkeepsie; currently, he works as a Certified Financial Planner;
and
WHEREAS, Martin Charwat has served on many boards in Poughkeepsie and
was the co-founder and first president of the World Affairs Council of
the Mid-Hudson Valley; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of their community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Eleanor and Martin Charwat have
stood constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by individuals
for the benefit of others which Eleanor and Martin Charwat have
displayed throughout their lives; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Eleanor and Martin Charwat upon the occasion of their desig-
nation for special recognition by the League of Women Voters of the Mid
Hudson Region on June 5, 2011; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Eleanor and Martin Charwat.
