LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Norman Duttweiler upon the occasion of
celebrating his 20th year as Producer and Managing Director of the
Forestburgh Playhouse in Forestburgh, New York

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
outstanding individuals whose professional lives, personal endeavors and
community service are an example and inspiration to their colleagues,
friends, and family; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Norman Duttweiler upon the occasion of celebrating his 20th year as
Producer and Managing Director of the Forestburgh Playhouse in Forest-
burgh, New York; this auspicious occasion will be celebrated at the
Forestburgh Theatre Arts Center's annual fundraiser, to be held on
Saturday, June 18, 2011; and
WHEREAS, Norman Duttweiler is the Producer and Managing Director of
the Forestburgh Theatre Arts Center, Inc. that manages the Forestburgh
Playhouse; after his first appearance as an actor at the Surflight
Summer Theatre in 1972, he subsequently appeared with such stars as Lana
Turner, Arlene Dahl, Kim Hunter, and George Chakiris in stock and
regional productions, and had a role in the long running revival of "Oh!
Calcutta!"; his appearance as Jackie Manchester in the Richard Benner
film "Too Outrageous" earned him rave notices in the NEW YORK POST; and
WHEREAS, A Summa Cum Laude graduate with a B.A. in Theatre from Ford-
ham University in 1973, Norman Duttweiler took a hiatus from the theatre
in the 1980s, and acquired an MBA from the Stern School at New York
University he then commenced a Wall Street career as Director of Infor-
mation Systems for one of Wall Street's most prestigious law firms; and
WHEREAS, Norman Duttweiler purchased the Forestburgh Playhouse in
1992; since then has produced more than 160 productions at the Play-
house, and also appeared in "Lips Together, Teeth Apart", "I Do! I Do!",
"1776", "My Fair Lady", "La Cage aux Folles", "The Full Monty", "The
Diary of Anne Frank", "Brighton Beach Memoirs", "Broadway Bound", "The
Producers", "M. Butterfly", "Hairspray", "Doubt", and "Inherit the
Wind"; he is the official Playhouse gardener as well; and
WHEREAS, Since 1992, the Forestburgh Playhouse has continued to offer
its own unique version of summer theatre to audiences of Sullivan Coun-
ty; dubbed the "Miracle of the Forest," the Playhouse has continued to
exist, and even thrive; and
WHEREAS, Under the skilled and inspired leadership of Norman Duttweil-
er, by the summer of 1997, the Playhouse celebrated its 50th birthday
with a record breaking season, records which have continued to be broken
each succeeding summer; overall subscription has now reached 50%, main
stage attendance averages about 85%, and the growth shows no signs of
slowing down; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his professional and communi-
ty service, a period of constructive involvement, Norman Duttweiler has
stood constant in dignity, good grace and humor, and has earned the
respect and admiration of his colleagues, family and friends; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be recognized by all the citizens of this great Empire
State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Norman Duttweiler upon the occasion of celebrating his 20th year
as Producer and Managing Director of the Forestburgh Playhouse in
Forestburgh, New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Norman Duttweiler, P.O. Box 35, Livingston Manor, New York
12758.
