LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Firefighter LeRoy E. Vanderhoof upon
the occasion of his designation for special recognition after 55 years
of dedicated service to the L.F. Sprague Hose Company

WHEREAS, The firefighters of New York State are renowned throughout the
Nation; their reputation is synonymous with excellence in the arduous
field of fire protection and prevention; and
WHEREAS, Since the early days of "teapot steamers," the volunteer
firefighter has been the cornerstone of our great Nation's efforts to
spare us from the ravages of fire; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to commend Firefighter LeRoy
E. Vanderhoof upon the occasion of his designation for special recogni-
tion after 55 years of dedicated service to the L.F. Sprague Hose Compa-
ny, to be celebrated at its 137th Annual Firemen's Banquet on Saturday,
June 11, 2011, at the King's Inn in Port Henry, New York; and
WHEREAS, LeRoy E. Vanderhoof joined the L.F. Sprague Hose Company on
December 8th, 1955; over the course of 55 years of service to the
department and community he has fulfilled the roles of Firefighter and
Company Officer; and
WHEREAS, In April of 1958, LeRoy E. Vanderhoof was elected Foreman in
support of the L.F. Sprague Hose Company; early on in his career, he was
also a member of the department's Fire Police force; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of his dedication and spirit to the community,
LeRoy E. Vanderhoof was elected to fulfill the role of Lieutenant from
April 1966-1967; he went on to successfully serve in the capacity of
Captain from April 1966-1972; and
WHEREAS, Over the course of his service, LeRoy E. Vanderhoof has
continually exhibited the mission of the organization, which is to
promote love of Country, good citizenship, civic virtue and self-sacrif-
ice, and to perpetuate the spirit, which from the earliest days has
actuated volunteer firefighters in the rendition of service of the high-
est type, in the protection of life and property from fire, without the
hope of fee or reward; and
WHEREAS, Volunteer firefighters and fire departments not only provide
the critical service of fire protection but also engage in other activ-
ities of great benefit and importance to the communities they serve; and
WHEREAS, It takes a special dedication, a strong desire to help others
and a tireless sense of community to forsake precious time with family
and friends to respond to the signal that a neighbor is in need; LeRoy
E. Vanderhoof is such a firefighter; throughout 55 years of devoted
service, this volunteer heroically performed, above and beyond the call
of duty, those responsibilities which define the task of fire
protection; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Firefighter LeRoy E. Vanderhoof for 55 years of distinguished
service; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to LeRoy E. Vanderhoof.
