LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 125th Anniversary of Long
Island University's Arnold & Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy and
Health Sciences

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those exemplary institutions of higher education within the
State of New York for their enduring commitment to the pursuit of
academic excellence; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 125th Anniversary of Long Island University's Arnold & Marie
Schwartz College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, celebrated on Thurs-
day, April 21, 2011; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1886, the Brooklyn College of Pharmacy became
affiliated with Long Island University in 1929; in 1976, the College
became a fully integrated unit of the University and was renamed the
Arnold & Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences; and
WHEREAS, Today, Long Island University's Arnold & Marie Schwartz
College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences is one of the nation's most
influential urban leaders in pharmacy education; and
WHEREAS, One of the oldest and largest schools of its kind in the
country, the Long Island University's Arnold & Marie Schwartz College of
Pharmacy and Health Sciences has continually made an enormous impact on
the pharmacy profession, graduating over 20,000 students; the College
educates nearly one quarter of the pharmacists in New York State and
many who find careers elsewhere; and
WHEREAS, This illustrious institution boasts an impressive roster of
alumni, including pharmacy professionals who are at the top echelons of
their fields, and at the forefront of groundbreaking developments in the
pharmaceutical industry; and
WHEREAS, Among the College of Pharmacy graduates are Herbert J.
Conrad, former president of Roche Pharmaceuticals; Dr. Louis Lemberger,
one of the scientists who discovered Prozac; Dr. Muhammed Majeed, found-
er of Sabinsa Corporation, a global manufacturer and marketer of alter-
native and complementary therapies; and Dr. Howard Murad, one of the
nation's top authorities on skin care; and
WHEREAS, Under the able leadership of Dean David Taft, Long Island
University's Arnold & Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy and Health
Sciences has embarked on substantial new campus construction and reno-
vations to expand and enhance its academic programs, research and commu-
nity services; and
WHEREAS, As Long Island University's Arnold & Marie Schwartz College
of Pharmacy and Health Sciences celebrates its 125th Anniversary, it
stands in fulfillment of the proud legacy of its namesake and is poised
for success for many years to come; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 125th Anniversary of Long Island University's Arnold &
Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Long Island University's Arnold & Marie Schwartz College of
Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Brooklyn, New York.
