LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Mr. and Mrs. Joe Monaghan upon the
occasion of their 50th Wedding Anniversary

WHEREAS, Joe Monaghan and the former Gene Degen were united in marriage
on April 15, 1961, at St. Peter's Church in Troy, New York, Gene's home-
town, and, recently, joyously celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary
surrounded by their family; and
WHEREAS, On April 9, 2011, Joe and Gene Monaghan were the guests of
honor at a party hosted by their children and their spouses at The Wish-
ing Well Restaurant in Wilton, New York; they were also guests at the
Gideon Putnam Resort in Saratoga and enjoyed Sunday brunch there with
their family and, Father Geoffrey Burke blessed the couple at their
parish, Our Lady of the Assumption Church, on the auspicious occasion of
their 50th Wedding Anniversary; and
WHEREAS, Joe and Gene Monaghan, of Watervliet, New York are the proud
parents of Joanne Rourke and her husband Joe of Ballston Lake, Patricia
Chase and her husband Gil of Gansevoort, Joe Monaghan of Clifton Park,
and Erin Huerter and her husband Tom of Ballston Lake and have seven
cherished grandchildren Cece Chase, 16; Hayley Chase, 16; Thomas Huert-
er, 14; Kevin Huerter, 12; Meghan Huerter, 8; Jillian Huerter, 6; and
Matthew Rourke, 3; and
WHEREAS, Joe Monaghan, a native of Watervliet, is a graduate of the
School of Law at Villanova University and has practiced law in Waterv-
liet for more than 50 years; Gene Monaghan earned her nursing degree
from St. Peter's Hospital in Albany and was a valued member of its nurs-
ing staff until she retired to raise her family; and
WHEREAS, A wonderful couple, Joe and Gene Monaghan enjoy vacationing
on Cape Cod, traveling, and spending time with their family and friends;
and
WHEREAS, Joe and Gene Monaghan are and always have been a tower of
strength, support, understanding and limitless love for their family;
and
WHEREAS, Their love, devotion, caring, sensitivity and responsiveness
to their family, friends and all who know them are their hallmark and
tradition; and
WHEREAS, Joe and Gene Monaghan have lived and continue to live their
lives with great dignity and genuine grace, always demonstrating a deep
and continuing concern for human values and ideals, and in so doing,
they have inspired others to do the same; and
WHEREAS, This meaningful occasion is the result of the love, hard work
and spirit that this couple has invested in their marriage; and
WHEREAS, These same values they have passed to their loved ones,
producing a family that is close-knit and supportive of its individual
members, public-minded in its relations to the community and committed
to the ideals of citizenship upon which this Nation was founded; and
WHEREAS, Joe and Gene Monaghan have touched the lives of their family
and many friends through the shining example of their marriage, which is
a testament to the devotion and admiration which they possess for one
another; and
WHEREAS, The longevity of this enduring marriage truly marks a mile-
stone in life's journey, an event of personal triumph and joy; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when an occa-
sion of such importance is brought to our attention, the same should be
memorialized by us for the edification and emulation of others; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Mr. and Mrs. Joe Monaghan upon the occasion of their 50th
Wedding Anniversary; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Mr. and Mrs. Joe Monaghan.
