LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Kenneth G. Giek upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition by the Northern Dutchess Hospital
Foundation Board of Trustees

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Kenneth G. Giek has given not only of his time and energies
but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Kenneth G.
Giek upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition by the
Northern Dutchess Hospital Foundation Board of Trustees, to be cele-
brated at its Starlight Ball on Saturday, June 18, 2011, at the Dutchess
County Fair Grounds in Rhinebeck, New York; and
WHEREAS, A 1965 graduate of Brewster High School, Kenneth G. Giek
attended Illinois Wesleyan University and the Simmons School of Mortuary
Science in Syracuse, New York; he did his apprenticeship at the Beecher
Funeral Home in Brewster and became a New York State Licensed Funeral
Director in January 1971; and
WHEREAS, Kenneth G. Giek owned and operated the Burnett and White
Funeral Home from 1981-2010; throughout this time, he served on numerous
professional boards and was a managing partner of Kol-Rocklea Memorials
and Cemetery Services Associates; and
WHEREAS, Kenneth G. Giek has been called upon to contribute his time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Beyond his professional involvement, Kenneth G. Giek has
found the time to get involved with numerous organizations around the
community; he has served on a variety of boards including Cross River
HealthCare, Inc., Hospice, Inc. of Dutchess Ulster Counties, First
National Bank of Rhinebeck and Red Hook Advisory Board of Directors, to
name just a few; and
WHEREAS, Even with so many demands on his time, Kenneth G. Giek found
the time to dedicate himself to Northern Dutchess Hospital and Founda-
tion and Health Quest; he served as a founding board member of the
Health Quest Board, and in numerous other positions; he remains an Emer-
itus Board Member of Northern Dutchess Hospital; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Kenneth G. Giek has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Karen; his three
daughters and their spouses, as well as his grandchildren, all of whom
feel privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his achieve-
ments; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Kenneth G. Giek has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Kenneth G. Giek upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by the Northern Dutchess Hospital Foundation Board of Trus-
tees; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Kenneth G. Giek.
