LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 125th Anniversary of Trinity
Episcopal Church of Seneca Falls, New York, to be celebrated on June 18,
2011

WHEREAS, Religious institutions, and the many spiritual, social and
educational benefits they confer, play a vital role in the development
of the moral fabric of a responsible citizenry; and
WHEREAS, It is the tradition of this State and this Nation to pay
tribute to those institutions and individuals who have contributed to
the ethical and spiritual values of their communities; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body takes pleasure in commemorating the
125th Anniversary of Trinity Episcopal Church of Seneca Falls, New York,
to be celebrated on Saturday, June 18, 2011; and
WHEREAS, The first cornerstone of Trinity Episcopal Church was laid on
June 2, 1885; the first service was held on Easter Sunday, April 25,
1886; and
WHEREAS, Today, Trinity Episcopal Church is on the register of
National Historic Sites of the United States and is the most photo-
graphed church in New York State; and
WHEREAS, American women's rights activist, Amelia Bloomer, and her
husband, Dexter, were founding members of Trinity Episcopal Church;
moreover, another women's right activist, Elizabeth Cady Stanton
worshipped at the church; and
WHEREAS, Trinity Episcopal Church has a long history of being involved
in its community; on a weekly basis the church holds a Sunday School
program as well as collects food and clothing items for the House of
Concern; every last Sunday of the month, Trinity hosts Neighbors Dinner
Out, a program which provides a hot meal to those in need; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Trinity Episcopal Church is home to a weekly AA
meeting on Friday evenings and hosts Seneca Singers, a community choir
on Monday nights; Trinity has also partnered with Hoops Annual Bicycle
Giveaway, a program which provides new bicycles for over 100 children in
the community at Christmas; and
WHEREAS, Trinity Episcopal Church stands on the threshold of tomorrow,
prepared to meet the challenges of the coming decades while retaining
that spiritual resolve which characterizes its past; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to take note of
enduring religious institutions and to bring such institutions to the
attention of the people of this Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 125th Anniversary of Trinity Episcopal Church of Seneca
Falls, New York, to be observed on June 18, 2011, fully confident that
this commemoration reflects the belief in those values which enhance the
dignity and purpose of life; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Trinity Episcopal Church, Seneca Falls, New York.
