LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Tyler Hicks upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition on June 21, 2011

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to pay proper tribute
to those individuals of great character and years who have helped to
shape and strengthen the quality of the communities in which they live;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Tyler Hicks upon the occasion of his designation for special recogni-
tion, and to wish a happy 90th birthday on Tuesday, June 21, 2011; and
WHEREAS, Tyler Hicks is Publisher and Editor of three newsletters,
INTERNATIONAL WEALTH SUCCESS, MONEY WATCH BULLETIN, and GLOBAL FINDING
SERVICES ALERT, and author of more than 127 published books on self-
help, business, and engineering and former Editorial Director and
Publisher of Professional and Reference Books at the McGraw-Hill Compa-
nies; and
WHEREAS, Moreover, Tyler Hicks is President of International Wealth
Success, Inc., a newsletter publishing firm he founded in 1966; he also
lectures and teaches business and engineering subjects world-wide;
scores of Fortune 500 company executives and employees have attended
many seminars and lectures in both the United States and Europe; he is
also a well-known financier who helps fund many small business startups
in the United States and overseas; and
WHEREAS, Born in New York City, Tyler Hicks attended Holy Spirit
School and DeWitt Clinton High School in the Bronx where he grew up; and
WHEREAS, Upon graduating, Tyler Hicks worked full time as a United
States Merchant Marine, serving on a total of 11 oceangoing ships of the
United States Lines, where he rose to the rank of First Assistant Engi-
neer; and
WHEREAS, Later, Tyler Hicks entered the Cooper Union School of Engi-
neering and earned a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering; and
WHEREAS, While attending Cooper Union, Tyler Hicks worked as an engi-
neering drafter at Lockwood Greene, Inc., Consulting Engineers; during
this time, he also wrote numerous technical articles which were
published in a variety of engineering magazines throughout the world;
and
WHEREAS, Soon after graduation Tyler Hicks obtained his Professional
Engineer's license; he also became a member of a number of professional
organizations, including the American Society of Mechanical Engineers,
the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, and the United
States Naval Institute; and
WHEREAS, In 1946, Tyler married the late Saretta Gratke Hicks; togeth-
er this loving union produced three children, Gregory, Steven, and
Barbara; and
WHEREAS, In 1950, Tyler Hicks joined POWER MAGAZINE, published by the
McGraw-Hill Companies, as Assistant Editor; he rose to Special Projects
Editor; in 1957, he transferred to the McGraw-Hill Book Company as
Acquisitions Editor where he sponsored a number of outstanding engineer-
ing books which became best sellers; and
WHEREAS, In 1958, Tyler Hicks was elected to the Board of Directors of
the McGraw-Hill Federal Credit Union; he was elected President in 1968,
and Chairman of the Board in 1975; and
WHEREAS, Today, Tyler Hicks is married to Mary T. Shanley, and is the
loving grandfather of seven grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren;
and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Tyler Hicks upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition on June 21, 2011; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Tyler Hicks.
