LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Irene Lunder Baynes upon the occasion of
her designation for special recognition

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize those
particular citizens who, through a lifetime of impressive achievement,
are a profound inspiration to all the citizens of our Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Irene Lunder Baynes upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition, to be celebrated at her 80th birthday party on Saturday,
July 23, 2011; and
WHEREAS, Irene Lunder Baynes was born July 23, 1931, in Brooklyn, New
York, to parents Helge Lunder and Emily Lovallo Lunder; she grew up with
her siblings, Edmund, Norma, and Robert; and
WHEREAS, In pursuit of academic and career accomplishments, Irene
Baynes attended P.S. 212 in Brooklyn, Mark Twain Junior High School in
Coney Island, and Lafayette High School in Brooklyn, where she graduated
at the age of 16; after graduation, she then became the first female
Municipal Bond Trader for Marine Midland Bank, thus broadening the hori-
zons of possibilities for many determined young women; and
WHEREAS, Irene Baynes's steadfast support of Buffalo's professional
sports teams, including the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres, involves
her not missing a family tailgating party for the past dozen years; she
also listens to untelevised Buffalo Sabres' games on her computer; and
WHEREAS, Irene Baynes's interests bring her to perfect days on the
beach, spent with family, enjoying boating and seafood dinners; she also
enjoys Atlantic City and New York City for Broadway shows and sight-see-
ing; and
WHEREAS, Irene Baynes is known to all as a wonderful mother; a loving
and devoted wife for 48 years, she and her husband, Patrick, had a
special bond until his passing in 2001; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her children Patricia, Edward,
Jamie, Jaqueline, Joseph and Theodore, her grandchildren, Michael,
David, Caitlin, Erica, Elizabeth, Joseph, Christy Lee, Maria, and Made-
line, as well as her great-grandchildren, Sadie Jo and Isabella, all of
whom feel privileged to be a part of her life and rejoice in her
achievements; and
WHEREAS, Irene Baynes has enriched the lives of her family, friends
and colleagues through her love and respect for others, and through the
wisdom which comes from many years of living life to the fullest; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Irene Lunder Baynes upon the occasion of her designation for
special recognition; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Irene Lunder Baynes.
