LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Bellmore-Merrick United Secondary
Teachers and paying tribute to Sue Ellen Sherman, who is retiring in
June 2011 and will be honored at the organization's 29th Annual Awards
and 50th Anniversary Dinner Dance on June 21, 2011

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge organizations and individuals of remarkable integ-
rity and character whose endeavors have enhanced the quality of educa-
tion in this great State; and
WHEREAS, The result of many individual efforts, the excellence and the
success of the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District are due in
large part to the efforts of Bellmore-Merrick United Secondary Teachers
and its members, several of whom are retiring in 2011; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend the Bell-
more-Merrick United Secondary Teachers organization and to pay tribute
to Sue Ellen Sherman, an Art teacher at Merrick Avenue Middle School, in
recognition of her years of distinguished service to the Bellmore-Mer-
rick Central High School District and its students; and
WHEREAS, Sue Ellen Sherman will be honored at the Bellmore-Merrick
United Secondary Teachers' 29th Annual Awards and 50th Anniversary
Dinner Dance, to be held at the Woodbury Country Club in Woodbury, New
York, on June 21, 2011; and
WHEREAS, Sue Ellen Sherman has demonstrated an impressive dedication,
an unparalleled devotion and an unremitting enthusiasm for the quality
of the educational programs and opportunities offered by the district
for the benefit of its faculty and students, as well as for the entire
community; and
WHEREAS, In completing her service, Sue Ellen Sherman leaves behind
more than bricks and mortar, she leaves behind a legacy to the residents
of the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District community and to
future generations of its students; and
WHEREAS, On Tuesday, June 21, 2011, Sue Ellen Sherman's family,
friends, and colleagues will gather to honor her and to wish her well in
her retirement; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Bellmore-Merrick United Secondary Teachers organization and
to pay tribute to Sue Ellen Sherman for her significant contributions to
education in Bellmore-Merrick, Long Island, and New York State; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Sue Ellen Sherman.
