LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending E. Stewart Jones, Jr. upon the occa-
sion of his designation for special recognition by the College of Saint
Rose on June 23, 2011

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, E. Stewart Jones, Jr. has given not only of his time and
energies but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and
consequently has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor E. Stewart
Jones, Jr. upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition
by the College of Saint Rose, to be celebrated at its A Community of
Excellence scholarship luncheon on Thursday, June 23, 2011, at Wolfert's
Roost Country Club in Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, With a reputation as a tireless advocate for the rights of
those who have been injured or accused of crimes, E. Stewart Jones, Jr.
has built his family's law firm into a ubiquitous name in the Capital
Region; and
WHEREAS, E. Stewart Jones, Jr. joined his family's firm in 1966, upon
graduation from Albany Law School; his success has earned him the
distinction of being the only New York State lawyer outside of New York
City to be elected to the four most exclusive and national organizations
honoring outstanding trial lawyers; and
WHEREAS, E. Stewart Jones, Jr. has been called upon to contribute his
time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has
always given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable man is a longtime supporter of Gilda's Club,
which recently merged with the American Cancer Society, and serves as
Chairman of the Albany Law School Board of Trustees; he has also
supported the construction of the Esther Massry Art Gallery at the
College of Saint Rose; and
WHEREAS, E. Stewart Jones, Jr. is a 2008 recipient of the Citizen
Laureate Award from the University at Albany, a Service Award from the
Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany, the Spirit of Hope Award from Gilda's
Club of the Capital Region, a service recognition from the Little
Sisters of the Poor/Our Lady of Hope Residence, the Partners in Literacy
Award from the Literacy Volunteers of Rensselaer County, and the Equal
Access to Justice Award from the Legal Aid Society of Northeastern New
York; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, E. Stewart Jones, Jr. has stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which E. Stewart Jones, Jr. has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend E. Stewart Jones, Jr. upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition by the College of Saint Rose on June 23, 2011; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to E. Stewart Jones, Jr.
