LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Reverend Dr. Randolph Nugent upon the
occasion of his retirement from Vanderveer Park United Methodist Church,
Brooklyn, New York

WHEREAS, The character and richness of religious and community life in
this noble Empire State is nourished and fulfilled through the faithful
concern and selfless devotion of those who would commit their energies
and purpose to the ministry of others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to bring full recog-
nition and just tribute to those individuals who distinguish themselves
and the ministry through their unremitting commitment and preeminence of
service; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Reverend Dr.
Randolph Nugent upon the occasion of his retirement from Vanderveer Park
United Methodist Church, Brooklyn, New York to be celebrated at a Dedi-
cation and Retirement Ceremony on Sunday, June 26, 2011; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of Hunter College, Reverend Dr. Randolph Nugent
went on to attend Drew University School of Theology, receiving a Master
of Divinity, followed by the New York Theological Seminary where he
received his Doctor of Ministry degree; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his ministry, Reverend Dr. Randolph Nugent has
served as pastor of numerous churches including Brooks Memorial United
Methodist Church, Queens; Van Alyst Avenue United Methodist Church, Long
Island City; First United Methodist Church, Albany, New York; United
Methodist Inner City Ministry, Troy Annual Conference, UMC; and Vander-
veer Park United Methodist Church of Brooklyn; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Dr. Randolph Nugent has also served his community as
Chairman of the Commission for Participation and Development, World
Council of Churches Member, Commission on World Mission and Evangelism
of the World Council of Churches Member, Commission on InterChurch Aid,
Refugees and World Service Member, General Board of the National Council
of Churches, Chairman of the African-American Institute, Member, Board
of Directors of Africa University, Inc. in Zimbabwe, Member of the Amer-
ican Foundation for AIDS Research, and Immediate Past President of the
Board of Trustees of The Interchurch Center; and
WHEREAS, Currently Reverend Dr. Randolph Nugent is a member of the
Board of Trustees of The Interchurch Center and Drew University, as well
as a board member of the United Methodist Society; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Dr. Randolph Nugent has brought to his ministry an
overwhelming spirit of charity and compassion, acting from vision and
enlightenment in conducting his administrative and spiritual duties,
while always displaying the highest standards of personal and profes-
sional integrity and dedication; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished man of God has always given enlightenment,
guidance and wisdom to the many entrusted to his care and has adminis-
tered abundantly and unstintingly to the spiritual and corporal needs of
all; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Barbara Montgomery,
and their two daughters, Patricia Nugent and Melissa Brown, as well as
three grandchildren, Ceili Ellis, and Jennifer, all of whom feel privi-
leged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when a person
of such noble aims and accomplishments is brought to our attention it is
appropriate to publicly and jubilantly proclaim and commend that indi-
vidual for the edification of others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations, to
commend Reverend Dr. Randolph Nugent upon the occasion of his retirement

from Vanderveer Park United Methodist Church, Brooklyn, New York, noting
his unremitting and compassionate faith and his exemplary service to
God, man, and his community, and extending to him the heartfelt best
wishes of this Legislative Body for a future of purposeful success and
well-being; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Reverend Dr. Randolph Nugent, 505 LaGuardia Place, New York,
New York 10012.
