LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating The Syracuse Center of Excellence
for achieving LEED Platinum-level certification from the U.S. Green
Building Council

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize those
organizations that focus on reducing energy consumption and improving
indoor air quality in order to benefit the health of our citizens, while
setting the highest level of environmental standards for the state and
country; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late The Syracuse Center of Excellence for achieving LEED Platinum-level
certification for its "green" headquarters building, located on East
Washington Street in the City of Syracuse; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated in March of 2010, The Syracuse Center of Excellence
headquarters was designed to exemplify the highest level of LEED stand-
ards in order to address global changes in clean and renewable energy,
indoor air quality and water resources; and
WHEREAS, Under the able leadership of Executive Director Edward
Bogucz, The Syracuse Center of Excellence headquarters is a five-story,
55,000 square foot facility that features numerous sustainable energy
initiatives, such as highly insulated glass windows to provide solar
heat, high efficiency LED lighting and a green roof; and
WHEREAS, The Syracuse Center of Excellence headquarters is relatively
narrow in design to reduce brownfield disturbance, and the building
contains a storm water retention tank and demand-controlled ventilation;
and
WHEREAS, The Syracuse Center of Excellence also houses laboratories
where members are able to conduct targeted research on indoor environ-
mental quality, demonstrate new technologies, commercialize innovations
and educate the workforce; and
WHEREAS, A LEED Platinum-level rating showcases The Syracuse Center of
Excellence as an international leader in clean energy and building
sustainability; it also allows members of research, academic and busi-
ness sectors to continue to collaboratively develop innovative technolo-
gies that will further enhance the region's economic health; and
WHEREAS, It took the vision and hard work of many passionate community
leaders and local and national experts to make The Syracuse Center of
Excellence headquarters a reality; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when facili-
ties of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor and recognize The Syracuse Center of Excellence for achieving LEED
Platinum-level certification for its "green" building headquarters on
East Washington Street in the City of Syracuse; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Edward Bogucz, Executive Director, The Syracuse Center of
Excellence.
