LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Vincent Proto upon the occasion of being
named the 2011 Person of the Year by the BELLMORE HERALD

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Vincent Proto has given not only of his time and energies but
also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has
been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Vincent Proto
upon the occasion of being named the 2011 Person of the Year by the
BELLMORE HERALD in recognition of his extraordinary commitment to his
hometown of North Bellmore and his alma mater, Wellington C. Mepham High
School; and
WHEREAS, Vincent Proto was born in Brooklyn and moved to North Bell-
more, New York, in 1959; he attended Saw Mill Road Elementary School,
Jerusalem Avenue Junior High School, and Wellington C. Mepham High
School, where he was sports editor of the school newspaper; and
WHEREAS, After graduation, Vincent Proto went on to Hofstra Universi-
ty, where he was an announcer for the football, basketball and wrestling
teams and a football statistician; and
WHEREAS, Vincent Proto graduated from Hofstra University in 1974, with
a bachelor's degree in accounting and was immediately hired by Haskins &
Sells, a major accounting firm that was later taken over by Deloitte &
Touche; and
WHEREAS, In 1979, Vincent Proto earned his master's degree in banking
from Hofstra, and was soon hired by Bankers Trust, now Deutsche Bank; he
currently serves as vice president of risk analysis for this major
institution; and
WHEREAS, Vincent Proto has been called upon to contribute his time and
talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always given
of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, In 1991, Vincent Proto began volunteering for the Mepham
Alumni Association, and in 1993, he started coaching his children's
softball and baseball teams in the North Bellmore-North Merrick Little
League, eventually becoming the organization's director; and
WHEREAS, One year later, Vincent Proto joined the Mepham Sports Boost-
ers Association, serving as president for three years and treasurer for
three years; and
WHEREAS, Today, Vincent Proto remains an adviser to the Mepham Sports
Boosters Association's executive committee while also volunteering for
the Mepham Alumni Association, for which he has served as president and
is now treasurer; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Vincent Proto has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Mary, and their chil-
dren, Catherine, Annemarie and Nicholas, all of whom feel privileged to
be a part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Vincent Proto has displayed through-
out his life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Vincent Proto upon the occasion of being named the 2011 Person of
the Year by the BELLMORE HERALD; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Vincent Proto.
