LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Bert Serling upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the 2011 Lifetime Achievement Award by the
Seneca County Chamber of Commerce

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, Bert Serling has given not only of his time and energies but
also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has
been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Bert Serling
upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the 2011 Lifetime
Achievement Award by the Seneca County Chamber of Commerce; and
WHEREAS, This fine event will take place on Friday, January 20, 2012
at the Waterloo Holiday Inn; and
WHEREAS, Bert Serling was born in Seneca Falls and graduated from
Mynderse Academy; he played football and was a member of the 1946 unde-
feated football team; he first attended Alfred and then Buffalo Univer-
sities where he earned a Doctorate of Law degree in 1954; and
WHEREAS, Bert Serling served in the United States Army until 1956 when
he returned home; after being admitted to the bar in 1956, he began the
practice of law with his father, Philip Serling; in 1961, he was admit-
ted to the United States Supreme Court and continues to practice law in
Seneca Falls to date; and
WHEREAS, Inducted into the inaugural Mynderse Academy Athletic Hall of
Fame in 2010, Bert Serling is involved with several professional organ-
izations, including the New York State Trial Lawyers Association and the
7th District Grievance Committee Appellate Division, Fourth Department;
active in his community, he is affiliated with: the Jewish War Veterans,
Seneca County Chamber of Commerce, American Legion, and the Seneca Falls
Rotary Club, to name a few; and
WHEREAS, Bert Serling has been called upon to contribute his time and
talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always given
of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Bert Serling has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Gloria, their chil-
dren, Mark, Sharon and Steve, all of whom feel privileged to be a part
of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Bert Serling has displayed through-
out his life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Bert Serling upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the 2011 Lifetime Achievement Award by the Seneca County Chamber of
Commerce; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Bert Serling.
