LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Cora Lessner upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Yedida Ne'emana Award by Young Israel of
Plainview, Inc.
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Cora Lessner
upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Yedida Ne'emana
Award by Young Israel of Plainview, Inc., to be celebrated at its 40th
Annual Testimonial Dinner on Sunday, March 25, 2012; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of Yeshiva High School, Queens College, and New
York University, Cora Lessner has been involved with Young Israel for
over 30 years; she has been a Hebrew remedial teacher for the past 25
years and mentor for all children at the Plainview campus of the Hebrew
Academy of Nassau County; and
WHEREAS, Cora Lessner has instilled her devotion to Jewish learning
and mitzvot for all children with her very special love of the Torah;
she has always found time to serve on various committees for Young Isra-
el Sisterhood, the Synagogue and Hebrew Academy of Nassau County; and
WHEREAS, Cora Lessner's quiet role in the Chevra Kadisha (Jewish Buri-
al Society) is an exceptional example of her commitment to not only the
Plainview community, but the extended Jewish Community as well; and
WHEREAS, Cora Lessner has been called upon to contribute her time and
talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always given
of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Cora Lessner has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, Jack, their chil-
dren, Seth and Marc, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of her
life and rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Cora Lessner has displayed through-
out her life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Cora Lessner upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the Yedida Ne'emana Award by Young Israel of Plainview, Inc.; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Cora Lessner.
