LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Julia A. Maedl upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the DeWitt Clinton Masonic Award for Commu-
nity Service by the Cataract Lodge No. 295 F&AM

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Julia A. Maedl has given not only of her time and energies
but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Julia A. Maedl
upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the DeWitt Clinton
Masonic Award for Community Service, to be celebrated on Wednesday,
April 18, 2012, at the Middleport Fire Hall in Middleport, New York; and
WHEREAS, Julie A. Maedl became Mayor of Middleport in 2001, and held
the office for 10 years; she served as a member of the Village Board for
9 years prior to becoming Mayor; and
WHEREAS, During Julie A. Maedl's term as Mayor, Middleport was desig-
nated by BUSINESS WEEK as No. 11 (out of 50) as "The Best Place To Raise
Kids" in the United States; and
WHEREAS, Moreover, Julie A. Maedl was instrumental in the preservation
of the Orchard Street railroad, the erecting of a pavilion in Margaret
Droman Park on the canal bank, and the successful sesquicentennial cele-
bration held in the Village in 2009; and
WHEREAS, Currently, Julie A. Maedl serves as Chairperson of the Royal-
ton Hartland Business and Professional Association, which works to
promote area businesses; and
WHEREAS, Julia A. Maedl has been called upon to contribute her time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, In the mid-1970s, Julie A. Maedl spearheaded the formation of
the Middleport Food Co-op, involving about 50 families; food items were
purchased in bulk and repackaged for the member families; the co-op
existed for about seven years; and
WHEREAS, Along with three other people, Julie A. Maedl organized the
Middleport Area Tourism and Beautification Committee, which has done
many things to enhance the Middleport area; and
WHEREAS, When the Food Machinery Corporation (FMC) instituted the
Community Advisory Panel in the mid-1990s, Julie A. Maedl was asked to
become a Charter Member; this group was asked to help promote a friendly
relationship between FMC and Village residents; and
WHEREAS, Julie A. Maedl is a very active communicant member of the
Middleport United Methodist Church and was the first chairperson of its
annual fundraising Arts and Crafts Show as well as the first chairperson
of its Bereavement Luncheon Committee; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Julia A. Maedl has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Julia A. Maedl has displayed
throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Julia A. Maedl upon the occasion of her designation as recipient

of the DeWitt Clinton Masonic Award for Community Service by the Cata-
ract Lodge No. 295 F&AM; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Julia A. Maedl.
