LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Anna Mario upon the occasion of
celebrating her 105th Birthday on February 3, 2012

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate Anna
Mario upon the occasion of celebrating her 105th Birthday; and
WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are vital parts of, and valuable
assets to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, The daughter of Maria Josephine and Denato Nicolo Turilli,
Anna Mario was born on February 3, 1907, on Elizabeth Street in New York
City; she was one of seven brothers and sisters; and
WHEREAS, For many years, Anna Mario worked as a machine operator for a
lingerie company in New York; she continued to work as a machine opera-
tor until she was 65 years of age; and
WHEREAS, In 1936, at the age of 29, Anna Mario married the late Angelo
Mario and moved to Brooklyn, New York, where she would live for the next
60 years; while living in Brooklyn, she was active in the St. Francis'
Senior Citizens Club where she served as its Treasurer; and
WHEREAS, On July 13, 1937, Anna Mario gave birth to her only child,
Elaine; she has four beloved grandchildren: Richard, Carol, Linda and
Christine; she also has eight great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, At the age of 90, Anna Mario moved to Port Jefferson, Long
Island, to be near her family; she is active in the Miller Place Senior
Club and held the office of President of the Echo Senior Citizens Club;
and
WHEREAS, Currently an active member of the Senior Clubs of the Rose
Caracappa Community Center and the Robert E. Reid Senior Recreation
Center, Anna Mario continues to lead a very active life; and
WHEREAS, Anna Mario maintains her own apartment and goes shopping on a
weekly basis; she enjoys cooking and entertaining her grandchildren and
great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, On February 3, 2007, a celebration at the Watermill Caterers
in Smithtown, Long Island, was given in honor of Anna Mario's 100th
Birthday; over 165 guests attended the auspicious occasion where Anna
greeted every guest by name and danced every dance; and
WHEREAS, This exceptional centenarian, with her zest for life, has
inspired and enhanced the lives of her family and friends; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished woman, who has experienced the incredible
joys and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those with the
stamina and courage to savor a full life, has inspired all those around
her; and
WHEREAS, This beloved senior citizen has enriched the lives of those
who have been privileged to know her through her joyous and sincere love
for others, and through the quiescent charm and wisdom which come only
from a fullness of years; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have witnessed
and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and awesome
achievements of this country during the last century, while themselves
contributing to the growth and excellence of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Anna Mario upon the occasion of celebrating her 105th
Birthday; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Anna Mario.
