LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating the 2011-2012 Rocky Point High
School Varsity Cheerleaders upon the occasion of capturing their second
straight national title
WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be achieved
only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit, nurtured by
dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, On Sunday, February 12, 2012, in Orlando, Florida, the 2011-
12 Rocky Point High School Varsity Cheerleaders captured first place in
the Medium Varsity Division II of the National High School Cheerleading
Championship; and
WHEREAS, The 2012 national championship earned by the 2011-2012 Rocky
Point High School Varsity Cheerleaders was the team's second consecutive
national title; it is the first Long Island team ever to accomplish that
athletic feat; and
WHEREAS, The national championship victory of the 2011-2012 Rocky
Point High School Varsity Cheerleaders followed its outstanding perform-
ance and eighth straight Empire Regional Championship title in December
2011; and
WHEREAS, On February 5, 2012, the 2011-2012 Rocky Point High School
Varsity Cheerleaders won the Long Island Championship, marking the sixth
time it has won that prestigious title; and
WHEREAS, The athletic talent displayed by this team is due in great
part to the efforts of Coach Anna Spallina, a skilled and inspirational
mentor, respected for her ability to develop potential into excellence;
and
WHEREAS, The team's overall record is outstanding, and the team
members were loyally and enthusiastically supported by family, fans,
friends and the community at large; and
WHEREAS, The hallmarks of the 2011-12 Rocky Point High School Varsity
Cheerleaders, from the beginning of the season to capturing its second
straight national title, were a sisterhood of athletic ability, of good
sportsmanship, of honor and of scholarship, demonstrating that these
team players are second to none; and
WHEREAS, Athletically and academically, the team members have proven
themselves to be an unbeatable combination of talents, reflecting favor-
ably on their school and community; and
WHEREAS, Coach Anna Spallina has done a superb job in guiding, molding
and inspiring the team members toward their goals; and
WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride and
accomplishment, and Coach Anna Spallina and the 2011-12 Rocky Point High
School Varsity Cheerleaders' outstanding athletes have clearly made a
contribution to the spirit of excellence which is a tradition of their
school; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the 2011-12 Rocky Point High School Varsity Cheerleaders
upon the occasion of capturing their second straight national title; its
members: Tayler Baker, Shannon Bouker, Giordanna Campo, Melissa Carnie-
ro, Nicole Danisi, Sami Gallino, Ashley Goldstein, Becca Holter, Eliza-
beth Holter, Cori Iacopelli, Elizabeth Johannesen, Megan Keane, Amanda
Lang, Jaclyn Lang, Brianna Lent, Cianna Maffei, Kaitlyn McDonald, Emily
O'Connor, Jenna Orlando, Danielle Ortolani, Amy Rausch, Anna Shapiro,
and Sarah Vaden; Coach, Anna Spallina and Athletic Director, Amy Agnesi-
ni; on their outstanding season, overall team record and second straight
national title; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the members of the 2011-12 Rocky Point High School Varsity
Cheerleaders, and to Coach Anna Spallina and Athletic Director Amy Agne-
sini.
