LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring L. Nathan Hare for his distinguished and
dedicated service to the citizens of Western New York

WHEREAS, With February being Black History Month, it is a time to
reflect on the struggles and victories of African-Americans throughout
our country's history and to recognize their numerous valuable contrib-
utions to society; and
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor L.
Nathan Hare for his distinguished and dedicated service to the citizens
of Western New York; and
WHEREAS, L. Nathan Hare has served as Executive Director of Community
Action Organization, Inc. of Erie County since 2002; located in Buffalo,
the organization is one of the oldest anti-poverty agencies in the coun-
try; and
WHEREAS, In his short time of spearheading the agency, L. Nathan Hare
has initiated a new system of service to youth entitled Neighborhood
United for Restoration, Teaching, Uplifting, Recreation, and Education
(N.U.R.T.U.R.E.); he rejuvenated the Neighborhood Services Department
and created a new Family Development Department; and
WHEREAS, L. Nathan Hare is a lifelong resident of Buffalo, New York,
where he has been involved in issues of youth employment, youth training
and education, foster care, and juvenile justice for over 30 years; he
has served as Director of the ECC Office of Special Programs, Commis-
sioner of the Eric County Department of Youth Services, and Western
Region Director of the Berkshire Farm Center and Services for Youth; and
WHEREAS, L. Nathan Hare is also a scholar and teacher of both Chris-
tian education and classical African history and culture, as well as a
storyteller, playwright, and author; he earned his bachelor's degree in
Business Management from Medille College, and holds a master's degree in
Education from SUNY/Buffalo; he is a Doctoral Candidate in Education
Administration at the State University of New York at Buffalo; and
WHEREAS, L. Nathan Hare also serves as a weekly Radio/Television Host
for three public affairs shows; "The World of Community Action" airing
on WBLK-FM and Time Warner Cable, and "Living Now with L. Nathan Hare"
on WUFO-AM in Buffalo; his most recent awards include: the New York
State Conference of Black Senators for Outstanding Community Leadership;
the Presidents Award from the Family Development Association of New York
State; the Distinguished Alumni Award from Buffalo's Municipal Housing
Authority; and the MADDADS Community Leadership Award, as well as many
others; and
WHEREAS, Inducted into the Heritage Registry of Who's Who, L. Nathan
Hare also has served and still serves on many boards and commissions,
including: New Yorkers Against the Death Penalty; Buffalo and Erie Coun-
ty Workforce Investment Board; New York State Community Action Associ-
ation; Primary Care Development Association; Buffalo Soccer Club; Commu-
nity Centers Technology Network; Buffalo Crime Force Reduction Task
Force; the Buffalo Local Action Committee, among countless others; and
WHEREAS, L. Nathan Hare's distinguished record merits the recognition
and respectful tribute of this Legislative Body; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor L. Nathan Hare for his distinguished and dedicated service to the
citizens of Western New York; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to L. Nathan Hare.
