LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Eileen Long-Chelales upon the occasion
of her designation as an Honorary Grand Marshal of the 37th Annual
Queens County St. Patrick's Day Parade, March 3, 2012

WHEREAS, St. Patrick's Day is a time for people of all nationalities and
generations to assemble and celebrate the rich culture and heritage of
the Irish people throughout these United States; and
WHEREAS, A St. Patrick's Day Parade reflects and records the ongoing
history of the United States and Ireland, and highlights the many
contributions and historical accomplishments of the Irish community in
this diverse land; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Eileen Long-
Chelales upon the occasion of being named an Honorary Grand Marshal of
the 37th Annual Queens County St. Patrick's Day Parade, to be held on
Saturday, March 3, 2012; and
WHEREAS, Thomas Flood will also be honored as an Honorary Grand
Marshal of the parade; and
WHEREAS, In addition, the 37th Annual Queens County St. Patrick's Day
Parade will honor Kevin O'Brien as Grand Marshal of the parade and
Edward Rice and Paddy McCarthy as Gaels of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Also being honored as Deputy Grand Marshals at this year's
Queens County St. Patrick's Day Parade are Maureen Donachie, Mary Ellen
Murray, Maurice Landers, Ralph Reed, Richard Keane, Mark C. Edwards,
Laura Sporny, Sister Agnes White, C.S.J., Eileen McDonald, and Michael
Charles Schramm, Jr.; and
WHEREAS, All of this year's honorees are fittingly being recognized
for their service in their individual fields to the Irish and Irish
Americans throughout New York State; and
WHEREAS, A 1988 graduate, Eileen Long-Chelales currently serves as
Director of Development for Bishop Ford Central Catholic High School;
she has been with Bishop Ford since September 2010; as Development
Director, she oversees all fundraising activities, including the recent-
ly announced Brother Michel Bettigole Financial Aid program, the first
program of its kind at Bishop Ford; and
WHEREAS, Prior to her arrival at Bishop Ford, Eileen Long-Chelales
served as a member of the Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board from July
2006 until September 2010; prior to that she was the Regional Adminis-
trator for the United States Office of General Services Administration;
as Regional Administrator, she was responsible for a workforce of 750
employees across New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico and the Virgin
Islands; and
WHEREAS, In her role as principal executive for the General Services
Administration's Northeast and Caribbean Region, she oversaw an annual
operating budget of $1.9 billion and a real estate portfolio that
included 83 government owned buildings and leased space in 432 commer-
cial locations; and
WHEREAS, Eileen Long-Chelales also served as Deputy Secretary for
Administration and Operations in the Office of Governor George E.
Pataki, a position she held for over two years; prior to 2002, she
served as the Chief of Staff for Lieutenant Governor Mary O. Donohue and
was Deputy Press Secretary to Governor Pataki; and
WHEREAS, Eileen Long-Chelales earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in
History from St. Francis College in Brooklyn Heights, New York in 1992;
and
WHEREAS, With Eileen Long-Chelales throughout have been her husband,
Joseph, and their children, Joseph and Caroline, all of whom are proud
to be part of her life and rejoice in her many accomplishments; and

WHEREAS, Eileen Long-Chelales and her family reside in Dyker Heights,
Brooklyn and are parishioners of Our Lady of Angels Parish in Bay Ridge;
her children attend Holy Angels Catholic Academy and Eileen Long-Che-
lales serves on the Our Lady of Angels Alumni Committee; and
WHEREAS, Eileen Long-Chelales truly embodies the spirit and the cher-
ished ideals and values of Irish-Americans of this great State and
nation; it is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individuals
of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our attention,
they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of the
great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Eileen Long-Chelales upon the occasion of her designation as an
Honorary Grand Marshal of the 37th Annual Queens County St. Patrick's
Day Parade, to be held on March 3, 2012; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Eileen Long-Chelales.
