LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Nancy Anderson Chauvin upon the occasion
of her retirement as Social Studies Teacher at South High School and as
an esteemed member of the Great Neck Teachers Association
WHEREAS, New York State's commitment to education is unparalleled; its
history and stature are secured by the superlative caliber of its educa-
tional professionals and the students they inspire; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge the
significant milestones in the distinguished careers of those outstanding
educational leaders, whose dedication and achievements have been instru-
mental in developing character and academic excellence in the young
people of New York State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Nancy Anderson Chauvin upon the occasion of her retirement as Social
Studies Teacher at South High School and as a member of the Great Neck
Teachers Association; she will officially retire in June of 2012; and
WHEREAS, Born in Brooklyn, New York, Nancy Anderson Chauvin moved to
Lynbrook at the age of ten and graduated from Lynbrook High School; and
WHEREAS, Nancy Anderson Chauvin attended SUNY Albany, earning both a
Bachelor of Arts degree and a master's degree in Education; and
WHEREAS, After graduation, Nancy Anderson Chauvin began her teaching
career in Guilderland, New York; and
WHEREAS, In 1973, Nancy Anderson Chauvin moved to Freeport, New York,
and began teaching Social Studies in Great Neck at South Junior High
School; and
WHEREAS, Seven years later, Nancy Anderson Chauvin moved to South High
School, where she continued on as a Social Studies teacher; most recent-
ly, she has taught AP History; and
WHEREAS, Early on in her career, Nancy Anderson Chauvin became an
active member of the Great Neck Teachers Association serving in numerous
capacities; and
WHEREAS, Through her involvement with the Great Neck Teachers Associ-
ation, Nancy Anderson Chauvin was instrumental in creating the middle
schools in Great Neck, New York; and
WHEREAS, Nancy Anderson Chauvin was elected President of Great Neck
Teachers Association in 1985; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, Bob, and their
son, David, both of whom feel privileged to be a part of her life and
rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, Educators like Nancy Anderson Chauvin provide a tremendous
service to the future of our State and Nation, inspiring generations of
young people in their educational journeys and ensuring their success in
their future years; and
WHEREAS, Nancy Anderson Chauvin has clearly had an enduring impact on
the youth of the South High School, as well as on the community-at-
large, and accordingly merits recognition and applause for many years of
impressive dedication to others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those individuals who work to support our proud tradition of
public education by providing their skills and talents to our schools;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Nancy Anderson Chauvin upon the occasion of her retirement as
Social Studies Teacher at South High School and as an esteemed member of
the Great Neck Teachers Association, and for her significant contrib-
utions to education in New York State; and to wish her continued success
in all of her future endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Nancy Anderson Chauvin.
