LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the Mary Brennan INN Soup Kitchen's
10th Anniversary of service to the Hempstead community and beyond

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that the quality and
character of life in the communities across New York State are reflec-
tive of the concerned and dedicated efforts of organizations and indi-
viduals who devote themselves to the welfare of the community and its
citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is pleased to recognize and
commemorate the observation of the Mary Brennan INN Soup Kitchen's 10th
Anniversary of service to the Hempstead, New York community, and
surrounding communities, on Sunday, March 4, 2012; and
WHEREAS, Also on this auspicious occasion, the Mary Brennan INN, Long
Island's largest soup kitchen, proudly held a ribbon cutting ceremony
for the agency's first guest choice pantry, a new Pantry which will
allow guests to choose their own grocery items; and
WHEREAS, The Mary Brennan INN has served people in need, in the Hemp-
stead community and other communities, for many years and may be justly
proud of its ability to serve the community, in a dignified and respect-
ful manner, while providing much needed services to thousands of people
seeking its assistance; and
WHEREAS, The INN (Interfaith Nutrition Network) addresses the issues
of hunger and homelessness on Long Island by providing food, shelter,
long-term housing, and supportive services in a dignified and respectful
manner for those who seek its help; and
WHEREAS, The INN is a volunteer-based organization with a dedicated
staff, a well-deserved broad base of community support, and a commitment
to educate the public about the issues it addresses; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that the distin-
guished record of the Mary Brennan INN merits the recognition and
respectful tribute of this Legislative Body and of all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Mary Brennan INN Soup Kitchen and to commemorate its 10th
Anniversary of service to the Hempstead community and beyond; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Mary Brennan INN Soup Kitchen.
