LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Ollie DeLoach Dent upon the occa-
sion of celebrating her 100th Birthday

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, Ollie DeLoach Dent will be recognized on Sunday, March 18,
2012, at St. Philip's Episcopal Church in Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, Ollie DeLoach Dent was born in Brunswick, Georgia, on Septem-
ber 29, 1911, to Oliver and Mamie DeLoach; after moving to New York
City, she graduated from high school and later attended Brooklyn College
where she earned her bachelor's and master's degrees; she later married
R. Risely Dent, Jr.; and
WHEREAS, Ollie DeLoach Dent went on to work for the Board of Education
as an English teacher and then in the Bureau of Attendance; she collec-
tively worked over 40 years with the Board of Education; and
WHEREAS, A member of the Brooklyn Friendship Club, Ollie DeLoach Dent
actively volunteered with the New York Lawyers Bar Association Grievance
Committee for ten years; she also served with the Board of Directors of
Stuyvesant Heights Senior Citizens Center and the Brooklyn Botanical
Gardens for many years; and
WHEREAS, A long-time member of St. Philip's Episcopal Church where she
sang with the St. Cecelia Choir, Ollie DeLoach Dent has been a member of
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. for more than 75 years and is also a
Diamond Girl; she is a founding member of the Brooklyn Chapter of AKA
and is the oldest living Diamond Girl in the United States; and
WHEREAS, This exceptional centenarian, with her zest for life, has
inspired and enhanced the lives of her family and friends; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished woman has experienced the incredible joys
and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those with the stamina
and courage to savor a full life; and
WHEREAS, This beloved woman has enriched the lives of those around her
through her joyous and sincere love for others and through the quiescent
charm and wisdom which comes only from a fullness of years; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her three sons, Fredrick,
Ronald and Rodney; her grandchildren Alexander and Randolph, and her
daughters- in-law Eunice and Elizabeth, all of whom feel privileged to
be a part of her life and rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have witnessed
and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and awesome
achievements of this country during the last century, while themselves
contributing to the growth and excellence of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Ollie DeLoach Dent upon the occasion of her 100th Birthday;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Ollie DeLoach Dent.
