LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Earl O'Brien of Triangle,
New York

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to mourn publicly the
death of cherished citizens of the State of New York whose life and
endeavors testify to their commitment to, and love of, their family and
their community; and
WHEREAS, It is with deep regret that this Legislative Body records the
passing of Earl O'Brien of Triangle, New York, on December 21, 2011, at
age 86, noting the loss of a citizen whose purposeful life and endeavors
contributed so much to the quality of life of his family and his commu-
nity; and
WHEREAS, Earl O'Brien was an Army Veteran, a member of the American
Legion since 1946, and a lifelong member of the Triangle Methodist
Church; and
WHEREAS, Earl O'Brien was a Charter Member of the Triangle Volunteer
Fire Company established in 1952 in Whitney Point, New York; a member
for over 59 years, he served as Fire Police Captain for more than 30
years and was the Fire Company Chaplain; in 2010, the Company hosted a
dinner fittingly honoring him for his dedication and commitment to the
Fire Company; and
WHEREAS, He was also Chaplain of the Broome County Firefighters Asso-
ciation for several years and regularly attended its meetings for many
years, often bringing his wife, Louise; and
WHEREAS, For many years, Earl O'Brien was, in addition, active in the
Broome County Fire Police and Fire Chaplain's Associations; and
WHEREAS, Earl O'Brien was a very dedicated volunteer who was always
willing to help whenever asked; he will be greatly missed by all those
who knew him; and
WHEREAS, Earl O'Brien is survived by his wife of 60 years, Louise; two
sons, James and his wife Colleen O'Brien of Johnson City, New York, and
Thomas and his wife Debbie O'Brien of Ocala, Florida; several grandchil-
dren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Fred O'Brien of Hollywood,
Florida; many nieces, nephews and cousins and a legion of friends who,
like his family, returned his love in overflowing measure; and
WHEREAS, Over his meritorious life, Earl O'Brien distinguished himself
as a man of sincere dedication and substantial contribution; now, there-
fore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to pay
tribute to the memory of Earl O'Brien, to celebrate his life, and to
honor his accomplishments; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Earl O'Brien.
