LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Retired Captain Norman Bohan for his 37
years of dedicated service as Post Adjutant of Town of Esopus American
Legion Post 1298
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
outstanding individuals whose professional lives, personal endeavors and
community service are an example and inspiration to their colleagues,
friends, and family; and
WHEREAS, Members and former members of the Armed Services from the
State of New York, who have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in
which this country's freedom was at stake, as well as in the preserva-
tion of peace in peace-time, deserve a special salute from this Legisla-
tive Body; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Retired Captain Norman Bohan for his 37 years of dedicated service as
Post Adjutant of Town of Esopus American Legion Post 1298; this auspi-
cious occasion will be celebrated Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at Post
1298's annual American Legion Birthday Dinner Meeting, to be held at the
Stonehedge Restaurant in West Park, New York; and
WHEREAS, Retired Captain Norman Bohan attended the United States Naval
Academy at Annopolis, Maryland, from 1940 to 1943; he courageously
served his country during World War II, where he was part of the D-Day
invasion in Normandy, France, and also served in the Korean and Vietnam
Wars; and
WHEREAS, For 37 years, Retired Captain Norman Bohan has been the Post
Adjutant for Town of Esopus American Legion Post 1298; he has been a
member of the American Legion for 67 years; and
WHEREAS, Retired Captain Norman Bohan has rendered distinguished and
dedicated service as a Legion Member at Town of Esopus American Legion
Post 1298; and
WHEREAS, Also dedicated to his community, Retired Captain Norman Bohan
currently serves as a county judge advocate and is in his 37th year as
County Director of Boys State; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife of 67 years, Fran, and
their six children, 18 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his professional and communi-
ty service, a period of constructive involvement, Retired Captain Norman
Bohan has stood constant in dignity, good grace and humor, and has
earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues, family and friends;
and
WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended and
thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and for
their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Retired Captain Norman Bohan for his 37 years of dedicated service
as Post Adjutant of Town of Esopus American Legion Post 1298; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Retired Captain Norman Bohan.
