LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Joseph Lauro upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition by the Federation of Italian-Ameri-
can Organizations of Brooklyn, Ltd.

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those individ-
uals who devote themselves to the welfare of the community and its citi-
zenry; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Joseph Lauro
upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition by the
Federation of Italian-American Organizations of Brooklyn, Ltd., to be
celebrated at its 34th Anniversary Gala on March 27, 2011; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Lauro is a Registered Architect and a Principal at
Gensler one of the world's largest Architectural Design Firms; Gensler
is a diverse firm providing design services for the full array of busi-
ness around the world; Gensler provides their expertise through 14 Prac-
tice Areas, Mr. Lauro leads the Mission Critical Facilities Practice
Area internationally; and
WHEREAS, In addition to leading a Practice Area at Gensler, Mr. Lauro
is a Technical Director responsible for technical excellence, quality
assurance and design development in the North East Region; he leads the
North East Region Education Group responsible for the staff education
programs that are meant to provide training, mentorship and professional
development for young architects; and
WHEREAS, A pioneer in the sustainable building design movement, Mr.
Lauro was part of the early class of design professionals to become a
LEED Accredited Professional, a certification from the United States
Green Building Council; as a LEED professional, he developed training
programs to teach professionals the fundamentals of the LEED Program and
the basics required for professional accreditation; in 2005, he was the
Architect for the world's first LEED Certified Data Center/Office Build-
ing for Fannie Mae in Urbana, Maryland; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Lauro has led the design team that is responsible for
"Il Centro" the first Italian American Community Center; as a proud
Italian American, who was born in Mola de Bari, Italy and raised in
Brooklyn, he has led the success of the FIAO team with an unparalleled
passion matched only by the FIAO team; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Lauro graduated from the New York Institute of Tech-
nology with a bachelor's degree in Architecture; he is an active member
of the American Institute of Architects, Urban Land Institute, The
Construction Specification Institute, The National Trust for Historic
Preservation, United States Green Building Council and The Green Grid;
and
WHEREAS, Joseph Lauro is married to Jennifer and they are blessed with
two beautiful children, DiAnna and Giovanni; the Lauro family has their
roots in Brooklyn and continues to provide support to the community; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Joseph Lauro upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by the Federation of Italian-American Organizations of
Brooklyn, Ltd.; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Joseph Lauro.
