LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating May 4, 2012, as National Nurses
Day, and May 6-12, 2012, as National Nurses Week, in the State of New
York
WHEREAS, On Friday, May 4, 2012, South Nassau Communities Hospital in
Oceanside, New York, will host a breakfast to celebrate National Nurses
Day; and
WHEREAS, National Nurses Day is celebrated on May 4, 2012, in conjunc-
tion with May 6-12, 2012, as National Nurses Week in the United States;
and
WHEREAS, National Nurses Week begins each year on May 6th and ends on
May 12th, Florence Nightingale's birthday; and
WHEREAS, National Nurses Week is one of the nation's largest health
care events, recognizing the contributions and commitments nurses make
and educating the public about the significant work they perform; and
WHEREAS, The theme of the 2012 National Nurses Week is "Nurses: Advo-
cating, Leading, Caring"; and
WHEREAS, The New York State Legislature affirms its commitment to
exercise a leadership role in urging all its citizens to support
National Nurses Day and National Nurses Week in the State of New York;
and
WHEREAS, It is most appropriate that this great Empire State recog-
nizes the worthy and beneficial purposes of celebrating both National
Nurses Day and National Nurses Week; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to call attention to
events that serve to bring people together for the united purpose of
actively pursuing improvements in their communities; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the observance of May 4, 2012, as National Nurses Day, and
May 6-12, 2012, as National Nurses Week, in the State of New York.
