LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring John Ruhland and Tina Hawkinson of Red
Cap Cleaners upon the occasion of their designation as recipients of the
Next Generation Award by the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of
Commerce

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, John Ruhland and Tina Hawkinson have given not only of their
time and energies but also of their competence, intelligence and leader-
ship and consequently have been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor John Ruhland
and Tina Hawkinson of Red Cap Cleaners upon the occasion of their desig-
nation as recipients of the Next Generation Award by the Dutchess County
Regional Chamber of Commerce, to be celebrated on February 5, 2011; and
WHEREAS, This fine event is the Chamber's Le Cirque Des Affaires Annu-
al Gala which will be held at The Grandview in Poughkeepsie, New York;
and
WHEREAS, Pierrette Ruhland and her family have owned the Red Cap
Cleaners for more than 30 years and have four locations in Dutchess
County; her children, John Ruhland and Tina Hawkinson, have assumed
leadership roles in the business and have made significant contributions
to its growth; and
WHEREAS, Both Tina Hawkinson and John Ruhland worked in the business
as teenagers; John has a Culinary Arts degree from The State University
of New York College of Agriculture and Technology at Cobleskill and has
experience in the restaurant industry; Tina earned her Bachelor's degree
in Marketing from the Fashion Institute of Technology - State University
of New York (F.I.T.) and worked for 10 years in the retail industry; and
WHEREAS, The family is active supporting organizations, including the
Kiwanis Club, Poughkeepsie Day Nursery, and the Center for the
Prevention of Child Abuse; they are also active members of the Dutchess
County Regional Chamber of Commerce; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of their community service, a
period of constructive involvement, John Ruhland and Tina Hawkinson have
stood constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by individuals
for the benefit of others which John Ruhland and Tina Hawkinson have
displayed throughout their lives; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor John Ruhland and Tina Hawkinson of Red Cap Cleaners upon the occa-
sion of their designation as recipients of the Next Generation Award by
the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to John Ruhland, Tina Hawkinson, and Pierrette Ruhland.
