LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Cassie Huntress upon the occasion of
receiving the Girl Scout Silver Award
WHEREAS, Cassie Huntress is a member of Walton, New York Girl Scouts of
America Troop 30736 affiliated with the Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways
council; and
WHEREAS, Through her diligence and rigorous efforts, Cassie Huntress
has earned Cadette Girl Scouting's highest and most prestigious honor,
the Girl Scout Silver Award for 11 to 14-year-old girls in Grades 6-8
and Girl Scouting's second highest achievement; and
WHEREAS, She will be honored at a Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways Young
Women of Distinction event in May 2012; and
WHEREAS, Girl Scouting has cultivated in our nation's young people the
goals of building solid values of sisterhood and the importance of work-
ing with others, stimulating both mind and body, instilling pride, and
encouraging community service and success; and
WHEREAS, Girl Scouting has expanded the horizons of the countless
young women who have participated in the programs which have made Girl
Scouting an American and international institution; and
WHEREAS, To earn the Silver Award, Cassie Huntress completed five
requirements; the first four requirements help girls build skills,
explore careers, gain leadership skills, and make a commitment to self-
improvement and are followed by the completion of the fifth requirement,
a Silver Award community service project which Cassie Huntress planned,
developed and executed; and
WHEREAS, For her Silver Award project, entitled "Safe Against Violence
Collection," Cassie Huntress, working with others, held a bottle drive
to raise funds, prepared and placed flyers and collection boxes in local
businesses and churches, made pillowcases from fun patterned materials,
decorated them, filled them with the items collected, and presented them
to people being served by the local Safe Against Violence program and
shelter; and
WHEREAS, Cassie Huntress and the other girls collected all new items
such as magazines, toiletries, soaps and washcloths, combs and brushes,
journals, puzzle books and puzzles, coloring books and crayons, small
games and stuffed animals which were very much appreciated by the shel-
ter and the recipients; and
WHEREAS, The Silver Award symbolizes an 11 to 14-year-old Cadette Girl
Scout's accomplishments in Girl Scouting and community activities as she
matures and works to better her life and the lives of others; it is
tangible evidence of Cassie Huntress's high character and commitment,
and is a harbinger of her future service to her community, New York
State and our nation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
warmly congratulate Cassie Huntress, recognizing her achievement in
earning the Girl Scout Silver Award and wishing her success, health and
happiness; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Cassie Huntress.
