LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Rebecca Jones upon the occasion of
receiving the Girl Scout Silver Award

WHEREAS, Rebecca Jones is a member of Roxbury, New York Girl Scouts of
America Troop 33006 affiliated with the Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways
council; and
WHEREAS, Through her diligence and rigorous efforts, Rebecca Jones has
earned Cadette Girl Scouting's highest and most prestigious honor, the
Girl Scout Silver Award for 11 to 14-year-old girls in Grades 6-8 and
Girl Scouting's second highest achievement; and
WHEREAS, She will be honored at a Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways Young
Women of Distinction event in May 2012; and
WHEREAS, Girl Scouting has cultivated in our nation's young people the
goals of building solid values of sisterhood and the importance of work-
ing with others, stimulating both mind and body, instilling pride, and
encouraging community service and success; and
WHEREAS, Girl Scouting has expanded the horizons of the countless
young women who have participated in the programs which have made Girl
Scouting an American and international institution; and
WHEREAS, To earn the Silver Award, Rebecca Jones completed five
requirements; the first four requirements help girls build skills,
explore careers, gain leadership skills, and make a commitment to self-
improvement and are followed by the completion of the fifth requirement,
a Silver Award community service project which Rebecca Jones planned,
developed and executed; and
WHEREAS, For her Silver Award project, entitled "Honoring Our Veter-
ans," Rebecca Jones, working with others, made 100 banners which, on
Memorial Day, they presented to American Legion members and other veter-
ans in honor of their service and which were much appreciated by the
recipients; and
WHEREAS, The girls also put together a display which they also shared
with the community on Memorial Day; the display featured uniforms and
pictures which were loaned to the Scouts and was greatly enjoyed; and
WHEREAS, The Silver Award symbolizes an 11 to 14-year-old Cadette Girl
Scout's accomplishments in Girl Scouting and community activities as she
matures and works to better her life and the lives of others; it is
tangible evidence of Rebecca Jones's high character and commitment, and
is a harbinger of her future service to her community, New York State
and our nation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
warmly congratulate Rebecca Jones, recognizing her achievement in earn-
ing the Girl Scout Silver Award and wishing her success, health and
happiness; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Rebecca Jones.
