LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Chief Master Sergeant Atticus C. Smith
upon the occasion of his retirement from the United States Air Force
after many years of dedicated service

WHEREAS, The dedication and sacrifices of our military personnel ensure
our continued role as a Nation which embodies the ideals of democracy,
and is a defender of liberty for peoples throughout the world; and
WHEREAS, Individuals who dedicate their careers and lives to military
service merit the commendation and applause of all citizens for their
commitment to the preservation of American freedom; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Chief Master Sergeant Atticus C. Smith upon the occasion of his retire-
ment from the United States Air Force after many years of dedicated
service; and
WHEREAS, Atticus C. Smith is the Command Chief Master Sergeant of the
93rd Air Ground Operations Wing, Moody Air Force Base, Georgia; his
primary duties are to advise the commander on matters influencing the
readiness, training, morale, welfare, quality of life, and professional
development of all assigned enlisted members; and
WHEREAS, A native of Walton, New York, in Delaware County, Chief
Master Sergeant Atticus C. Smith began his distinguished career in the
United States Air Force in October 1989 at Lackland Air Force Base in
Texas; he was promoted to Chief Master Sergeant in December 2007; and
WHEREAS, During his career, Chief Master Sergeant Atticus C. Smith's
illustrious Air Force duties included assignments in maintenance, oper-
ations, and professional military education; he has directly supported
operations Joint Endeavor, Joint Guard, Desert Thunder, Allied Force,
Enduring Freedom, and Iraqi Freedom; and
WHEREAS, As an enlisted aircrew member, Chief Master Sergeant Atticus
C. Smith has amassed 3,298 flight hours and 290 combat hours; and
WHEREAS, Chief Master Sergeant Atticus C. Smith holds the: Meritorious
Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters; Air Medal with two oak leaf
clusters; Aerial Achievement Medal with two oak leaf clusters; Air Force
Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster; Air Force Achievement
Medal; and Combat Readiness Medal with three oak leaf clusters; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Atticus C. Smith is the recipient of the: 1994
Military Citizenship Award; 1999 John L. Levitow Award; 1999 Academic
Achievement Award; and 2002 58th Special Operations Wing SNCO of the
Year Award; he was the 2004 SNCO Academy Distinguished Graduate and the
2005 Athlete of the Year at RAF Mildenhall in the United Kingdom; and
WHEREAS, In 2001, Chief Master Sergeant Atticus C. Smith received a
Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management from the College of
Santa Fe in Albuquerque, New Mexico; in 2002, he received an Associates
of Applied Science degree in Aviation Operations from the Community
College of the Air Force; and
WHEREAS, In all his official acts, Chief Master Sergeant Atticus C.
Smith has been governed by a sense of loyalty, duty and honor, that
allowed him to be a natural leader; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his extraordinary and outstanding military service
career, Chief Master Sergeant Atticus C. Smith has earned the respect,
admiration and esteem of his fellow members of the Armed Forces of the
United States, and of his friends, family and colleagues; now, there-
fore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Chief Master Sergeant Atticus C. Smith upon the occasion of his

retirement from the United States Air Force after many years of dedi-
cated service; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Chief Master Sergeant Atticus C. Smith.
