LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring the United States Army's 411th Engineer
Brigade upon the occasion of their deployment to Afghanistan
WHEREAS, The dedication and sacrifices of our military personnel ensure
our continued role as a Nation; and
WHEREAS, Individuals who dedicate their lives to military service
merit the commendation and applause of all citizens for their commitment
to the preservation of American freedom; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor the United
States Army's 411th Engineer Brigade upon the occasion of their deploy-
ment to Afghanistan, to be recognized with a Farewell Ceremony on Thurs-
day, April 19, 2012, at Stewart Air National Guard Base in Newburgh, New
York; and
WHEREAS, The 411th Engineer Brigade has a proud history spanning
almost 80 years; it was first constituted as the 355th Engineer Regiment
in 1921; during World War II, the Regiment saw action in the ETO under-
taking numerous bridging and mobility missions in Normandy, Northern
France, the Rhineland and the Ardennes region; and
WHEREAS, The Regiment was awarded the Meritorious Unit Commendation
for service in World War II; in 1948, the unit was reactivated, reorgan-
ized and re-designated as the 411th Engineer Brigade; the Brigade was
again recalled to active duty in 1990 during Operations Desert Shield
and Desert Storm; and
WHEREAS, The 411th Engineer Brigade also provided support to Operation
Joint Endeavor/Guard by augmenting the 412th ENCOM staff and by the
deployment of the 139th and 141st TC Detachments which were under its
peacetime command and control; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved with great respect and rever-
ent esteem, and, on behalf of all of the citizens of the Empire State,
to renew its tribute to the men and women who so courageously serve our
Nation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the United States Army's 411th Engineer Brigade upon the occasion
of their deployment to Afghanistan; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Brigadier General David L. Weeks, Commander, 411th Engineer
Brigade.
